After doing a short series with songs about the feminine gender, I include one post for the masculine gender. These are songs with the word man in the title and I know most of you recognize the saying “man of the house.”

“Piano Man” is a song that was written and performed by American singer and songwriter Billy Joel. It became his first single in North America and is part of this 1973 album of the same name. The lyrics are about Joel’s experiences as a lounge musician in Los Angeles, California. It became his first major hit and his signature song. It was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry.

“Rambling Man” is a song that was recorded by the American rock band The Allman Brothers Band. It came out in 1973 as the lead single on their fourth album Brothers and Sisters. The song was written and sung by guitarist Dickey Betts. It was inspired by a 1951 Hank Williams song of the same name. It became the band’s first and only Top 10 single.

“Mr. Tambourine Man” is a song that was written and sung by American singer and songwriter Bob Dylan. It is on his 1965 album Bringing It All Back Home. However, the biggest success of this song came when the American rock band The Byrds recorded it. The song quickly made it to number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts. “Mr. Tambourine Man” was the debut single for The Byrds and became the title track on their debut album.

“One Man One Woman” is a song that was composed by members of ABBA Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. It was recorded by the Swedish pop group ABBA. It is on their 1977 album ABBA: The Album.

“Painter Man” is a song that was written by British singer Kenny Pickett and guitarist Eddie Phillips. It was recorded by the English rock band The Creation. It came out as a single in 1966 and is on their album We Are Paintermen. The song was written as a response to their avant-garde stage show and is the band’s only Top 40 hit on the UK Singles chart.

“The Candy Man” is a song that was featured in the 1971 film “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory”. It was written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley for the film. A very popular version of this song was recorded by American singer, dancer, actor, comedian, film producer, and TV director Sammy Davis Jr. It is on his album Sammy Davis Jr. Now. The song became his only number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Backing vocals were done by the Mike Curb Congregation. It became one of Davis’s signature songs.

“Macho Man” is a song that was recorded by the American disco group Village People. It was released as the second single and title song of their eponymous album in 1978, The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the group’s first charting hit in the US.

“Rocket Man” is a song officially titled “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)”. The song was written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin. It was recorded by Elton John and is the lead single on his album Honky Chateau. It became a major hit single for him and the song was certified Double Platinum by the BPI. The song is at number 149 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”.

“Nowhere Man” is a song that was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles. It came out in 1965 and is on their album Rubber Soul, except in the US and Canada where is was released as a single in 1966 and on the album Yesterday and Today, The song is credited to Lennon-McCartney. The song includes a three-part harmony by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. It appears in the film “Yellow Submarine” where The Beatles sing about the character Jeremy Hillary Boob after they meet him in “nowhere land”.

“It’s Raining Men” is a song by the American musical duo The Weather Girls. It is on their third album Success from 1983. The song incorporates the elements of R&B, soul, and 1970s-style electronic dance music. It became the number one dance hit in the US and VH 1 listed the song as one of the Greatest Songs of the 1980s.
