The Man in My Life

After doing a short series with songs about the feminine gender, I include one post for the masculine gender. These are songs with the word man in the title and I know most of you recognize the saying “man of the house.”

“Piano Man” is a song that was written and performed by American singer and songwriter Billy Joel. It became his first single in North America and is part of this 1973 album of the same name. The lyrics are about Joel’s experiences as a lounge musician in Los Angeles, California. It became his first major hit and his signature song. “One Man One Woman” is a song that was composed by members of ABBA Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. It was recorded by the Swedish pop group ABBA. It is on their 1977 album ABBA: The Album.

“Painter Man” is a song that was written by British singer Kenny Pickett and guitarist Eddie Phillips. It was recorded by the English rock band The Creation. “Macho Man” is a song that was recorded by the American disco group Village People. It was released as the second single and title song of their eponymous album in 1978, The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the group’s first charting hit in the US.

“Rocket Man” is a song officially titled “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)”. The song was written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin. It was recorded by Elton John and is the lead single on his album Honky Chateau. It became a major hit single for him and the song was certified Double Platinum by the BPI. The song is at number 149 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”.

It became the number one dance hit in the US and VH 1 listed the song as one of the Greatest Songs of the 1980s.
