This incredible pop music group The Bee Gees came together in 1958 and consisted of three brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. They had great success and in the 1970s joined the disco craze. The Bee Gees wrote all of their own hits as well as writing and producing hits for other artists.

The brothers were born on the Isle of Man. The family lived in England for a while and then moved to Australia. At the time they started their singing career the youngest brother Andy Gibb was too young to join them. Later on, Andy started a singing career on his own and soon achieved stardom but unfortunately struggled with depression and died unexpectedly in 1988.

They have sold over 220 million records which puts them among the best-selling artists of all time. In 1997 The Bee Gees were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When Maurice died in 2003, Barry and Robin retired the group’s name. Then in 2009 they made the announcement that The Bee Gees would come together again and perform. Unfortunately Robin died of cancer in 2012.

The Bee Gees first album produced the hits “New York Mining Disaster 1941” and “To Love Somebody”. This put them into the eyes of the public. Their second album in 1967 Horizontal was equally successful with hits like “Massachusetts”, “World”, “And the Sun Will Shine” and “Really and Sincerely”.

They travelled to the U.S. and appeared on The Smothers Brothers Show. In 1968 they took a tour of Germany and Switzerland and were greeted by thousands of fans. They gained more popularity by performing their hit “Words” on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Two other hits followed “I Started a Joke” and “I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You”. They were very successful in the 1970s with hits like “Lonely Days”, “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” and “Run to Me”. For awhile their fame started to falter and then came the disco era.

The Bee Gees scored big by doing the soundtrack for the popular movie “Saturday Night Fever” starring John Travolta. That movie gets me up and dancing even today. The singles which came from the soundtrack were great hits “How Deep Is Your Love”, “Stayin’ Alive”, and “Night Fever” all reached number one. Another hit was “More Than a Woman”. The soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever went on to sell more than 40 million copies.

In 1978 they co-starred with Peter Frampton in “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band” After all this success they came out with the album Spirits Having Flown and it brought them three more hits “Too Much Heaven”, “Tragedy” and “Love You Inside Out”. However once the disco era was over so was their popularity. At this time Robin and Barry Gibb came out with some solo albums. In 1981 The Bee Gees came out with the album Living Eyes and scored two more hits “He’s a Liar” and “Living Eyes”.

In 1997 their album Still Water included the hit “Alone”. They ended the 20th century with their last full-sized concert BG2K on December 31, 1999.Their last album came out in 2001 This Is Where I Came In. Then in 2003 Maurice Gibbs died of a heart attack and when Robin Gibbs died of cancer in 2012 Barry Gibbs performed his first solo tour to honor his brothers and a lifetime of music.

The Bee Gees music and memories live on. Due to the computer age they can be introduced to new generations who learn to enjoy their music and relive the disco age all over again and that is what makes musical artists like this immortal.
