Tonight (we are young)
"People don't want to think about lyrics anymore, they just want to be told something." -Nate Ruess Now that we have established that Nate probably wants us to think about his lyrics and could be saying things that are hidden under the surface, let's look at one of his most popular, yet misunderstood songs to date.
Raine fielderPublished 3 years ago in BeatCTRL: SZA Has A Musical Epiphany
In an album of self-discovery, SZA preaches on the themes of body image and insecurity, femininity, and love. This album is heavy on questioning the societal norms that are placed upon women. The necessity to remain perfect at all times, being complacent or submissive in toxic relationships, and remaining sexually monogamous are all questioned in this come-to-earth album by SZA.
Josh HerringPublished 3 years ago in BeatAmerica’s Favorite Pastime: Dissecting“American Pie”
I met a girl who sang the blues And I asked her for some happy news But she just smiled and turned away There are very few people who aren’t at least casually acquainted with American Pie, Don McLean’s mega-hit that topped the Billboard chart on January 15, 1972, for a four-week stay. It was the Gone with the Wind of Pop songs, clocking in at an epic 8 minutes and 38 seconds, so some radio stations only played the first half of the song upon its initial release.
Kathy Copeland PaddenPublished 3 years ago in BeatSongs that Need to Die a Slow, Lingering Death
Before we begin, let me quickly add a disclaimer: a bad song isn’t a bad song simply because I hate it. It just means that I, personally, hate it. There, I saved you the trouble of defending crappy songs that suck.

GURMEET SINGH DANGPublished 3 years ago in BeatDone Overthinking with Fringe Mellow
Done Overthinking is a reflection of thoughts. I'm not sure exactly what was going on in my head when I wrote this one. I simply followed Henry into the studio and began writing as he started constructing an instrumental. I like making music this way because if the lyrics come together as the beat does, I think you get something that is more in sync with the mood and feel. I have written songs before to suit a developed instrumental and I think I translate its mood and vibe well however I think there is something special in writing at the same time as someone on a track. Henry was experimenting with sounds that seemed very open, free form, and fluid.

Thank You Jesus For The Blood Devotional
Do you remember the worst moments of your life? Burning recollections that flare up, taunting you with a sense of failure and shortcoming. Wretched moments. Do you remember feeling a sense of hope after a long winter season? Times when grace and peace brought you to your knees in gratitude. Salvation moments. Moments when you were rescued from the miry clay, and delivered safely to solid ground on the other side of the raging rivers.
How This Album Made Me Who I Am Today
4 years ago, Joey Bada$$ released a (personally) life-changing album. The timing of this album is pivotal for me, as it came out right as I was approaching my senior year of high school. In my opinion, this album is a certified classic and will continue to age beautifully as it inspires the youth. With some of the most difficult subject matters to talk about, Joey Bada$$ sends a very loud message in his sophomore album. From police brutality to reparations, the black plight in America comes to the forefront. What’s almost heart-breaking looking back at it, is that every single theme is still relevant in this point in time, and almost prophetic at times. Read on to see how this album, essentially, radicalized me.
Josh HerringPublished 3 years ago in BeatWhat did Meatloaf mean?
As only Meatloaf can tell this story and sing the song behind it. I am sure this has happened to all of us at one time or another. I know it happened to me, but it wasn't a female. I had been dating this boy for about a month and I went to see him. He put this song on, but the words he said to me were I hate you, I hate you, I never ever loved you. Then his mother escorted me out of the house. I learned a valuable lesson that day and it was not all relationships in the gay community work out either.

‘Without You’ - Skylar Astin I want to start by saying I’m a HUGE fan of Skylar Astin’s voice, his acting and just generally him as a human being. I have been following his social media for a long time now, patiently waiting for his debut release of original material. He proved in Pitch Perfect that he had the chops required to entertain us and his performances on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist did nothing but solidify that. From Soulful hits like ‘New York State of Mind’ to his unexpectedly powerful rendition of ‘Numb’, Skylar Astin has shown us time and time again that he has an incredible talent to share with the world.

The Song of Seikilos” is one of the oldest surviving epitaphs of a complete musical composition, along with musical notation known to date. The lyrics and the musical notes of this song were found engraved on a tombstone around the ancient city of Tralleis in the Aydın-ancient Carian region of Turkey. This song is also honored as being the second oldest song dating back to 2 A.D.
