folklore by Taylor Swift - a review
If you know me in the slightest, you know that I’m obsessed with Taylor Swift. I stream her music every single day. I can probably think of something relating to her or her lyrics in almost any conversation. And my favorite album of all time, by anyone, is folklore by Taylor Swift. This masterpiece of an album has no skips for me, it was a total genre shift for her and she aced it, and this album allowed Taylor to achieve her third Grammy for Album of the Year, making her the only female artist to achieve that award three different times–not to mention for three different genres. The first was for Fearless in 2008 (country/country-pop). The second was for 1989 (pop/synth-pop). And the third was for folklore (indie/alternative/folk). She is one of the only four artists to win Album of the Year three times–the other three are music legends Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon. She’s the only woman to achieve this milestone and she’s currently only thirty-three years old. And folklore is what got her the third win.

Going up the wooden stairs to the shared living quarters of my fellow youth in the shelter, my senses were overwhelmed by the loudest speaker setting of a CD/radio player being stuck in a loop.

Hello everyone! I'm looking forward to this! This is the most important exercise for me about this challenge by sharing the music that has shaped my life, lifting up my mood, expressing my feelings/emotions, battling my struggles/pain, seeking amazing adventures, and celebrating my moments, and so on… Creating our own music playlist is always one of the best coping tools and very fun creative tools as well.

Everyone loves nostalgia. Okay, maybe not necessarily, but there's no denying that older works are what make the present what it is. What I really mean is that, it is impossible to ignore past works of art when they have such an impact on the present. The butterfly effect is real, people.

Migrant Motel is a Los Angeles based Alt.Pop duo that have been releasing music and touring since 2017. They have been building a solid career by releasing singles backed with exceptionally well-done videos, and touring – including headlining the BMI stage at Lollapalooza in 2021. Their new single, “Party” flips the script on the usual party song by telling a tale of infatuation that never comes to fruition. It’s a universal story about wanting someone who doesn’t want you back – a relatable theme that is the backbone of this rising duo’s music.

Self
Dear Reader, Let me set the scene for you, as without it, what follows might seem like a hollow exercise in response to some arbitrary competition. I have been building this playlist since I’ve known what a playlist was, and honestly probably before that. The following are not top hits. Some aren’t even what folks would call ‘good songs.' No, this is a labor of love, a personal journey chronicled by track. So I invite you, dear reader, to take a chance and explore this musical odyssey with me, explore who I am as a writer, music listener, and human.

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven Once a month on Friday nights, your middle school hosts a dance in the school gym. You wear as much makeup and as little clothing as your mom will let you get away with, shedding layers and borrowing lipstick in the girl's bathroom once you get there. Your dad ruins your life by volunteering to chaperone every single dance.
