Why is Sour by Olivia Rodrigo the best Pop album of the year and possible the greatest debut album every. I am going to go over each song and tell my thoughts about them and I will give a wrap up at the end.

1. Brutal

Brutal is a song that hits you in the face from the start. It is something you would not except her to open the album with. The beat and the bass in this song is amazing. Its one of her more on the Rock side songs. The lyrics are very relatable for a teenage girl. It is about the insecurities of being a teenager living in today’s world.

2. Traitor

Traitor is about a breakup. The way she talks about it is unlike anything I have ever heard. The writing on this song and the whole album is perfect. The best line in the song and maybe the album is “ I guess you didn’t cheat but you’re still a traitor” another great line from this song is “and I know if you were true there’s no damn way that you could fall in love with somebody that quickly” Just the way she sings that line will give you goose bumps. The cadence of this song is also amazing.

3. Drivers License

Drivers License is a perfect song. For it to be her first single ever just makes it that much more impressive. The writing, the music, The bridge, her cussing, just everything. This was our first glimpse of greatness.

4. 1 step forward, 3 steps back

This song is a grower. You like it at first, but the more you listen to it the better it gets. It samples a Taylor Swift song and Taylor is a writer on this song. It is about a toxic relationship. One minute the guy is nice the next he is not.

5. Déjà vu

Déjà vu was the second single off the album. It sounds a somewhat like Drivers License but different. It is talking about the guy and his new girlfriend. He is doing the same things with the new girl as he did with you. I love the production of this song.

6. Good 4 u

Good 4 u is tied for me favorite song on the album. This one she goes full Rock. This was the third single, and I don’t think any of us where ready for this one. It starts off like some of the other things until you realize it is building up to something and that something is perfect. There is apart in the song I have not heard talked about much. It is right after she cusses. She laughs. That laugh gets me every time. This song is also where we learn that she is going to be a bridge queen. This is a perfect bridge.

7. Enough for you

Enough for you is the perfect song to have following Good 4 u. It is a ballad. It is about you trying to do all the things you think your partner would want but you realize you will never be good enough for that person. This is the song where the album starts to turn. She is finally starting to take care of herself.

8. Happier

Happier is great. I love the rhythm of this song. It is about you wanting your ex to be happy just not happier then when they were with you.

9. Jealousy, jealousy

Jealousy, jealousy starts out kinda funky. It definitely has a vastly different vibe to it. It is not about a relationship. It is about comparing yourself to other people. I love the line “I know their beauty’s not my lack” another great line is “their win is not my loss”. I think a lot of people can relate to this song. It does not matter if you are a teenager or an adult. We all compare ourselves to other people and want what they have.

10. Favorite crime

Favorite crime is another ballad. I think we either have been or know someone that has been with a person that you would do anything for. In the song they are doing illegal things

11. Hope ur ok

Hope ur ok is the last song on the album. What a way to close out an album. This is my other favorite song. It is talking about you just checking up on people that you knew when you where young. In this case the people had rough childhood. I relate to this song a lot. If you have not cried yet this song will do it.

I would like you to try and name another album that will have both men and woman crying by the end of it, that is one of the reasons this is the album of the year and the greatest debut album ever. The production, the writing, everything is simply perfect. I am going to talk about the videos for the singles. They are perfect for each song. I think Good 4 u was the best video of the three. I like where she chooses to cuss on the album. There is a purpose to it. I am in love with this album.
