Songs That Are Actually Your Hype Women Squad

Love yourself as much as they do

Valentine's Day: Another year, another bottle of wine and half eaten bag of shredded cheese as you morph into your sofa watching reruns of The Office while secretly hating on Jim and Pam. You debate texting your ex, or maybe opening Bumble for a couple of fresh swipes, cause maybe tonight you'll get lucky. Except that doesn't have to be the case this time around, and probably shouldn't...

For the past 5 years, it feels like you've celebrated every variation of "Galentine's Day" or "Singles Awareness Day", ranging from brunch pool parties with the girls, to a couch potato cry fest for one. This year, your girls are busy with work, their partners, or out of town. So where does that leave you? Still single. But why does that have to be such a bad thing?

In the famous words of Tom & Donna, TREAT YO'SELF! You don't have another person to spend your money on, cook for, plan for, or dote on. So honey, why don't you do all that for you? Take yourself shopping, cook yourself a culinary masterpiece (or if you're a dud in the kitchen, buy one!), drive yourself around on a nice scenic daytrip, book yourself a nail appointment or spa day. There is honestly no limit to the possibilities of all the ways you can express love to the most important person in your life: yourself.

TREAT. YO. SELF.

Naturally, this is easier said than done. You want your crew to accompany you when the warmth of a lover can't. That's why I'm here to share with you, my holy grail of songs that are HERE for the HYPE, for you to take with you anywhere you go.

The Hype Queen: Pretty Girl - Stefflon Don, Tiggs Da Author

Leader of the hype squad and ultimate cheerleader, Pretty Girl won't let you forget that you're not just a pretty girl, but you are damn near irresistible and you need to FLAUNT. WHAT. YOU'VE. GOT. You are a whole lot of woman and are way too good for the charity cases seen on your dating apps . These childish boys tryna holler at you then playing their mind games, holding you back from your fierce ass excellence and potential. But you know what? Not today. Boy, bye.

The Party Girl: 212 - Azealia Banks ft Lazy Jay

Looking for a party? This is your girl. She wants to take you to the club, get you drunk, be your wing woman, punch any guy who grabs your ass disrespectfully, get you into VIP, and then throw you in an uber with that hot guy from the bar for a steamy story to divulge tomorrow over mimosas. She will not rest until she sees you're having a good time. You want to up the ante with some coke or molly? She's got the hookup, don't you worry, just say the word.

The Psychologist: Rescue - Yuna

Every time life brings you this close to having a mental breakdown, Rescue is your immediate go-to. She'll listen to all your dramas over a hot cup of chai. Sitting and chatting with her feels like wrapping yourself up in a soft blanket by a fireplace on a frosty winter evening. From your biggest insecurities to your most outlandish hopes and dreams, she knows it all. Her ability to understand and speak to your soul never ceases to amaze you, and her advice never disappoints.

The LGBTQ Woke Girl: Curious - Hayley Kiyoko

Have you been played by one too many f*ck boys? Been ghosted by "men" who have a paralyzing fear of commitment? Curious is here to remind you, screw them! Maybe it's time you take a break from vanilla heterosexuality and spice things up. Explore your options! There are so many flavors available to you outside of your plain old comfortable vanilla. The world is your oyster, and from what she tells you, it sounds pretty fun on the other side of the rainbow.

The Health Nut: The Greatest - Sia

Waking up at 5am on a Saturday to participate in a half-marathon is just another day-in-the-life for The Greatest. She's a spinning instructor at LA Fitness 3 days a week as a side-gig, and keeps track of her calories and macros. Outings with her generally are some variation of an early hike to watch the sunrise, rock climbing, or a beach yoga event. She oozes the "health and wellness" hashtag, and every encounter ends with a fleeting motivation to indulge in a salad.

The Stoner: Roses - The Chainsmokers ft ROZES

Do you smell that? That pungent stench? The odor that's snaking through the ventilation system into the neighbor's apartment and escaping through the cracks of the doors? That, my friend, is the sweet fragrance of your troubles floating up and away in a modest puff of mary jane. Roses never fails to have a blunt, bong, spliff, or pipe at the ready with an open invitation. Stressed? Take a hit. Anxious? Take another hit. Pissed? Hell, take two! She is all about feeling good, riding the mellow wave, and bringing you along for the ride.

The Boss Bitch: Work - Iggy Azalea

Talk about not needing a man, Work struggled, fought, and climbed to the top with nothing more than the TJ Maxx sales-rack blazer on her back. Power and success are her number one priority, and she never fails to preach on the importance of a woman's financial freedom. Leaving empty handed after meeting up with her is completely out of the question. Whether it's a 5-star dining date or shopping trip to Sephora, it is always her treat.

The Squad: Girls Just Want To Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper

Last but most certainly not least, the whole damn squad. There is truly nothing better than getting together with your girls for a middle-school style dorky night of games, gossip, laughs, and bottles of wine to go around. Girls Just Want To Have Fun is every brunch, casual hangout, bachelorette party, baby shower, road trip and sleepover that you spend with your girls when you can all find time away from your busy schedules. Because at the end of the day, when all is said and done, we all just want to have fun.
