Song for a New Year
Sharing another creative outlet

A BRIEF POINT OF NOTE:
I must say from the outset of this that the following is NOT an entry to either the "Soundtrack of the Year" challenge, nor the brand new "New Year, New Projects" challenge! I most unfortunately have not had time to work up a submission for the former, and have only just moments ago learned about the latter. I certainly intend to write something for the new challenge, which I find SO cool - perhaps even pertaining to the subject of this piece!
ANYHOW:
I am typing up this brief note in the waning hours of New Year's Day, feeling compelled to share with this wonderful community another little window into my soul. As it is late (and I have work tomorrow), I will try to rein in my verbosity and be concise! For a number of years now, I have enjoyed the writing and playing of music. Only recently, however, have I begun to share any of my musical musings with characters beyond the LEGO figures or disinterested dog making up my bedroom audience. Just a few weeks ago, I started up a YouTube channel where I posted a couple of simple recordings of original songs! I intend to continue sharing my musical endeavors there for the foreseeable future.
While I NEVER want to use Vocal as a platform for shallow self-aggrandizement or advertising (we've already had enough trouble with bots doing that on here!!), I felt it might be alright for me to let you all know about this other venue through which I hope to channel some creativity. I have encountered so much genuine connection and creative encouragement on this site; as I owe so much of my motivation and inspiration to those present here, I feel I also owe it to you beautiful souls to share this other outlet of my artistic expression. If that's something you are at all interested in, great! And if not, that's no worries at all too. :)
I'll share below the main link to the channel, but also embed a video that I just uploaded. I've been fiddling around with some phrases and musical motifs for the past few hours today, all revolving around changing seasons, the way hope moves in and out of our lives, and the strange, melancholy hopefulness I feel on New Year's Day. I'm writing the lyrics out too, in the poem form that I first composed them.
Anyhow, thanks for reading this strange ramble! I appreciate you all greatly, and wish you a year full to the brim with light, life, and love. Cheers, friend! :)
I had a vision,
As the sun sank on another year;
Fifty years down the road,
A lined face with a single tear...
An old man on a young man's journey!
You still don't know who you are...
Hoping for a different January -
But hope's never lasted, so far...
I had a vision
Another trip around the sun;
A bright future:
Green fields, and golden sun!
Every single soul you've ever known
Embracing, happy, and free
Beauty, from bitter seeds sown -
Like new buds on an old tree...
Uncertain, unknown, unfettered, unclear -
Unfinished things remain, but it's already here:
Another, another, another new year!
I had a vision
We got a little closer to hope
This year 💙
