An Essay

There are songs that get a person into their feelings. Feelings of sadness, hopefulness, happiness, and the feeling to be loved. HONNE’s “Warm On A Cold Night” is a song that displays the affection between a man and a woman. The lyrics as well as the music production shows love in a different light.

To start, the song is about the singer boasting about his girlfriend and how she chose him. In the song Honne says, “Girl you could have anyone/So why you choosing me and not leaving me on my own” (lines 28-29). He obviously does not feel good enough for her. The singer feels as if she can do much better. He continues on to say, “So thanks for making me your number one” (line 31). He is appreciating her because she must be perfect in his eyes. He still can’t believe that she is his. He says, “I want to treat you something special/Give you what you deserve” (lines 13-14). The singer already believes that he is not worthy of her love, so he wants to give her things that are better. For example, he then says, “I want to take you to paradise/In a 1950’s Merc” (lines 15-16). Basically, he is saying he adores his girlfriend a lot he just wants to give her everything and more. He wants her to give her bliss. The singer, loves this woman so much, at the beginning he sings, “I feel so dang lucky/To have you on my arm” (lines 3-4). The singer is definitely proud of his girlfriend. She is better than he expected. Maybe a little too perfect, but he loves her, which he states in the song.

On Saturdays, when I was younger, my church had youth fun nights. My siblings and I would pile into my mother's car, turn on the radio, and drive. On the way to church, we would pass the beaming orange streetlights, we were calm, happy, and feeling good. The music on the radio, which was jazz, set the mood for the car ride and night. The very beginning of “Warm On A Cold Night” makes me think of those evenings. The start of the song is jazzy and "staticy", like I am listening to the radio. At the end of the beginning, I could hear a car driving on the road. The opening is just nostalgic. Nostalgia is always wonderful. The start of the song would make any person want to just drive on the expressway and listen to this ballad over and over again. This song not only makes me think of driving at night, but makes me want to be loved in a way that nobody has ever loved me. I want to be the girl the singer is talking about, but instead of me keeping my significant other warm, I would like it if he would protect me from all harm. I love the way this song makes me feel.

Lastly, the title of the song could mean that the narrator's girlfriend protects him or makes him feels safe. The title is often being repeated throughout the song because he is often assured by his lover. This song has many interpretations and could induce different memories for numerous people. It is very relatable for couples that have been together for a long time. For example, the songwriter says, “And I can’t help but wonder/How we ended up alright” (lines 5-6). It’s a surprise for most couples that they are still together when they have been through so much. That is what the singer is trying to express. The song also puts anyone into a wonderful, relaxing mood.

In conclusion, “Warm On A Cold Night” is a song that shows the tenderness that couples who love each other share. Also, the music production makes me nostalgic and is very relatable.
