Recount the Votes! The Songs That Should've Been Eurovision Finalists

16th Place for Slovakia, really???

Since 2004, the Eurovision Semi-Finals have had many shocks. From front runners falling flat, to the best performances not even being close to qualifying, they have taken many causalities. But which ones were the most robbed, and should’ve been in the Eurovision Final?

Kate Ryan- "Je t'adore" (Eurovision 2006 Belgium, 12th Place)

We start with a fairly obvious choice. Kate Ryan was pipped to be only Belgium’s second ever winner in 2006, but feel short of a final place. From 2004 to 2008 the semi-finals were brutal: with over 20 songs each time competing for just ten places. The top ten from the year before (excluding the big four) would get an automatic place in the final the following year. This meant quite a few songs that would have been dead on arrival in the semi-final ended up being in the final: and in 2006 Kate deserved a place over a number of already prequalified songs.

Evridiki- "Comme ci, comme ça" (Eurovision 2007 Cyprus, 15th Place)

Another front runner that somehow feel way short of a qualifying place. Perhaps her performance was a little intense, but none the less this should have been in there. Had this year had two semi-finals, I’d imagine this would have gone through.

Anonymous- "Salvem el món" (Eurovision 2007 Andorra, 12th Place)

Easily Andorra’s best song, and should’ve been a finalist. Something a bit different for Eurovision and definitely something strong for Andorra, a crime truly.

Rebeka Dremelj- "Vrag naj vzame" (Eurovision 2008 Slovenia, 11th Place)

An absolute bop from Slovenia, the confusing staging and hideous outfit reveal let this down. Had she had gone for better more sleek staging, this would’ve been a certain qualifier.

Andrea Demirović- "Just Get Out of My Life" (Eurovision 2009 Montenegro, 11th Place)

My favourite entry from Montenegro, and Andrea oozes sass in this performance. Opening the semi-final did not help her in a very strong year. I n 2008 and 2009 a very random (and poorly thought out) rule of the juries picking a wildcard entry to the final could’ve saved her, but they wrongly picked Croatia. My commiserations in these two year to North Macedonia also, who finished 10th in the semi-finals both times and were burned by this rule!

Sinéad Mulvey and Black Daisy- "Et Cetera" (Eurovision 2009 Ireland, 11th Place)

One of Irelands better entries post 2000, and I was surprised to not see this have a place in the final. Fun and well performed, this would’ve been refreshing in a somewhat mixed final.

Kristina- "Horehronie" (Eurovision 2010 Slovakia, 16th Place)

One of the favourites pre-contest, the confusing staging let this song down. Regardless of this, 16th place?? Really Europe?

Valentina Monetta- "Crisalide (Vola)" (Eurovision 2013 San Marino, 12th Place)

God loves a trier, and I'm so glad Valentina finally got her place in the final in 2014. However, out of all of her entries this was by far her best, and the gag of the century when she didn’t qualify. I’m sure we will see her back again, as it seems San Marino passes the baton between Valentina, Serhat and Senit.

Mei Finegold- "Same Heart" (Eurovision 2014 Israel, 14th Place)

This was a HUGE shock when it didn’t qualify. One of my favourite ever songs, the live performance was a little off but none the less had a huge reception ion the hall. Belarus was a finalist that year over this banger, and I will never get over that.

Eduard Romanyuta "I Want Your Love" (Eurovision 2015 Moldova, 11th place)

A bit of a no marker before the contest, this campy and ridiculous song went over a treat at the 2015 contest, and it would’ve been so much fun in the final!

Agnete- "Icebreaker" (Eurovision 2016 Norway, 13th Place)

One of my favourite ever Eurovision songs, I was certain this would be a top 5 entry in 2016. The staging seemed too plain and Agnette’s vocals were a little off, but should’ve been a finalist that year for sure even so!

What do you think? Who should've been in the final?
