Reactions as Tems Goes Mad, Walks Out of Show (Video)

They tried her

Last year, the name Tems went from a name not many people knew about to practically a household name. Her hit 'Try Me', and consecutive hit 'Essence' with Wizkid has catapulted her into the Nigerian consciousness and Tems is now one of the most successful artists we have currently in the industry.

While there is still so much we do not know about her, one thing that we perceive of Tems is that she seems to be a very cool-headed person. She’s never really in the news for scandal, or clapping back, or gbas gbos life. Most times when she’s in the news, it’s either because of her music or because of things other people (e.g. Samklef) say about her.

This is why today’s story is very surprising and why everybody was so shocked when what happened happened. Are you ready to see the drama? Then let’s go!

The video is below if you want to watch it immediately, just scroll down. For those of you who don’t feel like watching the video or don’t have data to waste, let me break down what happened for you.

The surprising video starts off with Tems in the middle of singing one of her less popular songs. Abruptly, she turns back to the DJ booth and says:

Cut cut cut, we need to address the people that have been trying us here. That want to destroy us and roll us in ganja and set us on fire. Shall we? Are you ready? Cuz I’m ready. I’m tired o! Let’s go!

At this point, Tems was expecting the music to start playing but instead, she was met with complete silence. Confused, she picked up her mic and began saying:

Ah! They want to try us here o! They want to try us here. Ah

Then, the DJ cued up her music and started playing the intro to her song ‘Try Me’ which got Tems relaxed, but not for too long because of what was about to happen.

First of all she had to ask for more volume because the song wasn’t loud enough, and then after the beginning instrumental gave way to the first verse of the song, Tems started singing. That’s where there was problem.

The DJ started playing the OFFICIAL version of the song (that is the one that we all know and sing along to) instead of the INSTRUMENTAL version of the song so that Tems can sing live on. This completely pissed off Tems.

Two lines into the song, she turned around to give a gesture that implied what’s going on to the DJ but the music kept on playing. At that point, it was clear on her face that she was already pissed. She then stopped the music and said,

Cut. Cut! They want to try me here. So I’m just going to do this

Putting the mic to her mouth with no instrumental backing, she sang only the eight line chorus of the song before saying ‘Thank you’ and storming out of the stage.

Everybody was confused. Even in the video, you can hear people saying “Ah ah. Ah ah.” After the concert some people said that she should have just managed with the official version of the song instead of simply walking away while some other people disagreed saying that she did well walking away and at least sang part of the song for the crowd.
