Raven Deserves the Disney Legend Award

On March 19, Disney announced that pop singer Miley Cyrus will be honored for the Disney Legends making her the youngest entertainer to be honored as a Disney Legend along with other entertainers including actresses Angela Bassett and Jamie Lee Curtis, film director James Cameron, and television host Kelly Ripa who were all honored.

Yes, I am proud of Miley she deserves everything ever since she won her first two Grammys years after her bitter divorce with her then-husband Liam Hemsworth.

However, I’m not gonna lie, in my opinion, or everybody's opinion, I feel like Raven Symone should be receiving a Disney Legend Award. Symone started as a child star and rapper. At a young age, she auditioned and landed the role of Olivia in The Cosby Show. After the cancellation of the Cosby Show, she continued to venture off her music career and acting career. She released her first single "That What Little Girls Are Made Of" and released her first album at the age of 9.

I have mentioned her music career in my last article story with the rest of the former Disney music stars.

Fast Forward, at the age of 13, Raven starred in Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century in 1999 which became her first Disney Channel Orginal appearance.

She later auditioned for Absolutely Psychic which would be later retitled to "That's So Raven" after Raven landed on the show.

That's So Raven premiered on January 17, 2003, becoming the highest-rating Disney Channel sitcom. While the comedy sitcom was dealing with her psychic visions, the show also tackled serious issues including racism, body image, bullying, and etc. The show spawned popularity through merchandise, soundtrack albums, and a video game. The show received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Children's Program. Symone continued starring in more Disney projects. She voiced Monique in Disney's animated television show Kim Possible.

Symone would star in another original Disney Channel The Cheetah Girls which would become the highest-rating Disney Channel Original Movie spawning soundtrack albums, toys, concert tickets, posters, and other selling merchandises. Symone starred in The Cheetah Girls 2 which gained a huge success again.

After That's So Raven, Symone voiced Iridessa in the Direct-to-DVD Tinkerbell film series.

In 2008, she starred in her first leading role in the comedy live-action Disney film College Road Trip along with Martin Lawrence. The film was a box office hit debuting at number two at the box office.

In 2010, she also made a guest appearance on the Disney Channel Original Series Sonny with a Chance alongside Demi Lovato.

Then, she came back to Disney again making a guest appearance on KC Undercover alongside future Emmy winner Zendaya.

In 2017, she returned to Disney after she made an announcement on the View that That's So Raven is coming back as a spinoff.

In 2017, Raven's Home, a spinoff to That's So Raven, premieres on July 21, 2017. This time as Raven Baxter, a divorcee and single mother to her twins: Booker and Nia (both played by Isaac Ryan Brown and Navia Robinson). Raven became the main cast, executive producer, and director of the show. The show was hit again and has continued for six seasons.

As you can see, Raven had done so much for Disney before Miley Cyrus came during the 2006 era taking over as a pop star living a secret double life and during the time she was on the show. After Hannah Montana ended, Cyrus went on to do some white girl twerking, smoking ganja and salvia, and being controversial. However, Raven isn't clean as well after all let's not forget the "I'm an American" comment on Oprah and the Watermelondra comment on the View at the time she was hosting. Although I would have to admit Hannah Montana is a good show however I felt like Raven deserved to be honored as a Disney Legend. The Disney Legends Award Ceremony premieres on August 11 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

Hopefully, Disney will do better next year this time will be Raven. Or maybe Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, costume designer Ruth E. Carter (she won two Oscars for Best Costume Design for Black Panther), Brandy Norwood (she became the first live-action Black princess before Halle Bailey became Ariel), Brenda Song, Kyla Pratt, or Ashley Tisdale. But whatever, Congrats Miley and everyone else who was honored for Disney Legend.
