And now, live, from The Tower, your host, Nora Lunna!

Hello, hello! Welcome to another episode of Nora’s Infinite Playlist!

As you know, Valentine’s Day approaches, and with it, we will see parades of couples’ pictures on social media, videos, flowers galore, wedding proposals, a river of the finest chocolates, and many celebrating anniversaries. But, how about the lonely ones? Those who had a breakup days before Cupid’s Arrowfest on humans, or those who simply do not give a damn about celebrating love, lust, and le passion. Don’t worry, folks, Nora’s Infinite Playlist got you!

Let’s start with the aunties everywhere, that try every year to have a good Valentine’s Day, but the man or woman of the hour does not deliver. Tired of being the one bringing the dough while your lover stays home doing nothing and then expects you to cook dinner and have it at the table by six? Tell your lover you need a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me!!!

1. Respect, Aretha Franklin

No one will sing this as Ms. Franklin did. In an era where women were the housewives and caretakers, Ms. Franklin was singing about equality and “If you don’t give me the respect I deserve, I’m gone, chile!!! So, the next time your man is giving you grief, sock it to him and demand R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Yes, sir, your stuff will be on the streets if you don’t give me the respect I deserve!

Don’t worry, my valiant gentlemen, I got you too! Because let’s be honest here for a moment. There are gentlemen out there, working hard to provide, protect, and please the women (or men, depending on your preference) they love. After a long day at work, they come home and where is the loving? Where are the kisses? Where are the hugs? Oh no, sir! All I need is your hard-earned coin!

2. Gold Digger, Kanye West (featuring Jamie Foxx)

Of course, the original by Ray Charles will always reign supreme. However, this cover/reimagining of Gold Digger is perfect for my men out there, I am not saying she/he is a gold digger, but the lover is not messing with broke men! Sing, loud, my brethren!! ‘She takes my money, when I’m in need…

I haven’t forgotten about you, damsels in eternal distress. I know how hard it is this time of the year for you. For the gals who had everything planned to the t: the lingerie from Victoria’s Secret, the candles from Bath and Body Works in Cotton Candy Sugar, Sparkling Raspberries, and sprinkle of Love from Cupid with Essential Oils, the champagne, candlelight dinner, soft music… and all go to the drain when your lover calls a couple of days before V-day to let you know “I am not feeling this, baby. I think we need to break up”. For you, my ladies of perpetual tears, I give you

3. All by Myself, Celine Dion

So, you are going through a breakup, and while it is not easy to navigate these turbulent waters, you are not alone with your aching heart. All by Myself is the ultimate break-up song no matter the mood you are in (and very close to Alone, by Heart, you can fight me on this one!). Songwriters knew this, and fed on our endless pit of despair when they wrote lyrics such as: All by myself, don’t want to be, all by myself, anymoreeeee!!!! (Don’t tell me you did not read this singing the lyrics, I know you did!)

Before I end the show, an honorable mention to all my metal heads out there, all clad in black, protesting the crass commercialism that is V-Day everywhere! For you, my dark lovelies, I give you

4. Alter Bridge, Lover

From the sad sounds of the guitar to the soulful voice of lead singer Myles Kennedy, comes this song of break up, pain, and everything in between. Because a bleeding heart can only sing of towers crumbling down. I mean, come on!

If you deny the wounds of your lover

You will discover

That what you had is shattered and wasted

Did you have to take it so far? – Lover, Alter Bridge

And that will be all for today, beautiful people! Don’t forget to tune in next Sunday for another episode of Nora’s Infinite Playlist. I am your host, Nora Lunna signing off! Peace!
