My Top 10 Songs Of 2020

Don't fight me on this

#10: Double Negative (Skelton Milkshake): Dominic Fike

What else can I say about this song besides the fact that it's an absolute bop? Propelled by a prominent bassline and catchy chorus, the worst part about this song is that it barely touches the 2-minute mark.

#9: Guilty Conscience: 070 Shake

070 Shake has what is arguably the most unique voice in all of contemporay hip-hop/rap. Her voice echoes throughout this song in such an ethereal way, that listening to this song makes me feel like im floating through space. Invest in some good headphones for this one.

#8: When It Breaks: Inhaler

Headed by the son of U2 frontman Bono, Inhaler is an Irish group with a familiar sound. While there defintely is some U2 influence here, this song is somewhere closer to the Killers with its distorted guitar lines. Great vocals and basslines make it a great modern rock jam. Overall, way better than anything U2 has made in the last decade

#7: Fever: Dua Lipa & Angéle

Perhaps 2020's most interesting collab was this song with the UK's Dua Lipa and Belgium's Angéle. Dua shines like she always does in her typical pop style but the standout here is actually Angéle. With her verse being entirely in french, Angéle adds an exciting layer to an already outstanding song. Couple that up with her and Dua harmonizing with each other on an all french refrain and youv'e got one of the most interesting, and danceable, songs of the year.

#6: 34+35: Ariana Grande

The pop queen is BACK. While anyone who has seen my spotify wrapped knows im clearly biased towards Miss Grande, its undeniable that this song is some straight heat. Invoking some of her old steamy Side by Side vibes, Ariana has bestowed upon us an absolute banger when we needed it the most. 34+35=69 by the way.

#5: Lovesick Girls: Blackpink

2020 sucked for just about everyone except K-Pop super girl group Blackpink. This song, the lead single off their first full album, is a bop even on US charts. Propelled by insane production and a catchy chorus, it has to be one of the most fun songs of the year despite its overtly depressing subject matter.

#4: Colors: The Black Pumas

When you listen to this JAM it's no wonder why The Black Pumas are up for album of the year. This group out of Austin (that's Texas supremacy, sorry other 49 states), has a sound that hasn't been heard for decades. With soulful blues fitting for 70's clubs, The Pumas have a feel-good anthem that is an instant dose of serotonin.

#3: Moderation: Eluera

This song supports my longstanding theory that Australia is home to the best mucisians in the world. Eluera is quite possibly the most underrated artist to make my list this year and if she keeps making songs like this, it's not a matter of if she blows up internationally, but when. Her vocals shine over perfect production and she has crafted what is probably the best melody I have heard this entire year.

#2: Teardrops: Bring Me The Horizon

First, let me say it, I am absolutely biased towards Bring Me The Horizon. But with that being said, this has got to be the best rock song in the last 5 years. The Linkin Park-Esque bits combined with the unique BMTH sound that they have come to be known for is simply unlike anything that is happening in the rock scene right now. Blast this one LOUD.

#1: Pretty Please: Dua Lipa

This is it, this is the hill I am prepared to die on. I'm just going to say it: Dua Lipa made the best song of the year and it went wholly unnoticed and unappreciated. After listening to this song I am always completely confused as to how a complete materpiece of a song like this just went under the radar. It has everything. Harmonies. Funky bass. Funky guitar licks. It starts out kind of slow but that only makes the funky and fresh breakdown of the second half even better. This is simply the best song of the year and Dua's best song ever. If you disagree that sucks because this is MY list after all.
