Looks like the sea lion might be singing along

Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter S. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, and R.

“Sailing” is a song that makes me daydream about being in a sailboat caught by a wonderful summer breeze and skimming across a shimmering lake. This is a soft rock song from 1979 recorded by American singer and songwriter Christopher Cross. The song is featured on his debut album Christopher Cross which was certified Gold, The song rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Sailing” won the Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Arrangement of the Year while Cross won for Best New Artist.

“Save the Last Dance for Me” has always been a favorite song of mine and I enjoy both just listening to it and dancing to it. The version I love best is sung by Canadian singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen. It is a wonderful and heartwarming version of this song. The song was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman and first recorded by the American R&B group The Drifters with Ben E. King on lead vocals. The Drifters version made it to number one on the U.S. pop and R&B charts.

From the very first notes and vocals of the song “Soul and Inspiration,” I turn up the volume and enjoy the 1966 version by the American pop duo The Righteous Brothers. The song became their first hit. It was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Wells. “Soul and Inspiration” went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and charted on the UK Singles chart.

“(She’s) Always a Woman to Me” is a very beautiful and romantic ballad sung by American singer, songwriter, and pianist Billy Joel. The song is featured on his 1977 album The Stranger, It came out as a single along with other hits from this album among them “Just the Way You Are” and “Only the Good Die Young”. “(She’s) Always a Woman to Me” charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

I have always loved the song “Still the Same” because it reminded me of a very dear and good friend. The song was recorded in 1978 by American singer and songwriter Bob Seger. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Seger has said that the inspiration for the song was an amalgamation of characters he had met when he first arrived in Hollywood.

I really enjoy the song “She” and often have turned up the volume and sung along to it. It was recorded by the American pop-rock band The Monkees and is featured on their album More of the Monkees from 1967. The song was written by Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart, and band member Micky Dolenz. The album went to number one on the Billboard 200 chart as well as on the UK Albums chart. It has been certified quintuple platinum by the RIAA. More of the Monkees is known for being the first pop/rock album to become the best-selling album of the year in the US.

The song “Something” is among my favorite love songs recorded by the English rock band The Beatles. The song is on their album Abbey Road. It was written by band member George Harrison. The song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also charted on the UK Singles chart.

A delightful and wonderful song “Sunshine Superman” was written and recorded by Scottish singer and songwriter Donovan. It was released as a single in 1966 and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. There is a full-length version of the song on the album Donovan’s Greatest Hits. It is considered to be a psychedelic pop, folk rock, psychedelic folk, and psychedelic rock song.
