Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter O. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, and N.

“Our Last Song Together” by American singer and songwriter Neil Sedaka has always made me feel nostalgic and brings back many different memories. The song is from 1973 and is the third single that was released from his album The Tra-La Days Are Over. The song became a Top 40 hit in the UK and Ireland. It was co-written by Sedaka and Howard Greenfield.

I hear the song “Old Time Rock and Roll” and I have to crank up the music, sing along, and dance if I can. It is a lively and mood-uplifting song. It was written by George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones. The song was recorded in 1979 and released as a single by American singer and songwriter Bob Seger. It is featured on his album Stranger in Town. The song became popular when it was featured in the movie “Risky Business” in 1983. It was also featured in a Domino’s Pizza commercial about contactless delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.

Now this song “On the Road Again” always gets me feeling happy and getting myself back out there and down the road. The song was written and recorded by American country music singer Willie Nelson inspired by life on tour. It is featured on the soundtrack of the 1980 film “Honeysuckle Rose”. It became Nelson’s ninth Country & Western number one hit and one of his most recognizable tunes. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song. Rolling Stone magazine has it ranked at number 471 on the list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011.

An old-time but lovable song “Only Love Can Break a Heart” is a real sing-a-long song. It was recorded in 1962 by American singer and songwriter Gene Pitney. The song was written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach and is featured on Pitney’s album of the same name. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Easy Listening charts.

“Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da” is a bouncy song with a catchy tune and lyrics that always has brought a smile to my face, It was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles in 1968 and is on their double album The Beatles or The White Album. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was written by McCartney in a cod Jamaican ska style. Since 2009 McCartney has regularly performed this song in concert.

“On the Wings of a Nightingale” is a likable song that was recorded by one of my favorite duos the American rock duo The Everly Brothers. The song was written by Paul McCartney and is featured on their 1984 album EB 84. McCartney wrote the song for the duo and played guitar on the recording. It became The Everly Brothers' most popular song since 1970 and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“On the Street Where You Live” is a beautiful love song that I fell in love with when I first heard it in the musical “My Fair Lady”. The song was written by Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner in 1956 for the Broadway musical “My Fair Lady” and is also sung in the film version. It became a popular hit for American traditional pop, big band singer, and actor Vic Damone. The song charted on the Billboard and Cashbox charts.
