Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter C. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A and B.

“Carefree Highway” is a song that was written and recorded by Canadian singer, songwriter, and guitarist Gordon Lightfoot. The song is featured on his 1974 album Sundown. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went to number one on the Easy Listening chart. Lightfoot took the name of the song from a section of Arizona State Route 74 in north Phoenix.

“Closer to the Heart” is a song that was recorded by the Canadian rock band Rush. The song is featured as the lead single from their fifth album A Farewell to Kings. The song was written by Peter Talbot who was a friend of drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. It charted on the UK Singles chart and became the band’s first hit single in the UK. The song was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010.

“California Blue” is a song that was written by American singer and songwriter Roy Orbison, American musician Tom Petty, and English singer and songwriter Jeff Lynne. Orbison recorded the song in 1988 and released it as a single from his 1989 album Mystery Girl.

“Crying in the Rain” is a song that was written by American lyricist and songwriter Howard Greenfield and composed by American singer and songwriter Carole King. It was recorded by the American duo The Everly Brothers and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Everly Brothers are best remembered by this song.

“Come Together” is a song by the English rock band The Beatles. It was written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon-McCartney. The song is the opening track to their 1969 album Abbey Road.

“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” is a song that was recorded by the British rock band Queen. It was written by band member Freddie Mercury in 1979 and became their final single release in the 1970s. It is on their 1980 album The Game and appears on the compilation album Greatest Hits. The song charted on the UK Singles chart and became the group’s first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Mercury composed the song on guitar and played rhythm guitar performing the song live between 1979 and 1986.

“Crystal Blue Persuasion” is a song that was recorded by the American rock band Tommy James and the Shondells. The song was composed by Eddie Gray, Tommy James, and Mike Vale. It came out as a single in 1969 and became one of the band's biggest hits. The song is featured on their album Crimson & Clover. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song rose to number one on the music chart in Canada.

“Cry Baby” is a song that was originally recorded by American singer Garnet Mimms and the Enchanters in 1963. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the R&B charts. The song became a big hit when American rock singer Janis Joplin recorded the song in 1970. The song is featured on her posthumous album Pearl released in 1971. Joplin’s version made it more of a blues-rock song and with Joplin’s powerful voice, it became a hit and charted on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box charts.
