Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter A. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs.

“Angie” is a song that was recorded by the English rock band The Rolling Stones. The song is on their 1973 album Goats Heat Soup and was the lead single from the album. It rose to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also charted on the UK Singles chart. It also reached number one in Canada and Australia and many European countries.

“Against the Wind” is a song that was written and recorded by the American singer and songwriter Bob Seger. The song is included on his 1980 album of the same name. It was released as the second single from the album. This song is a mid-tempo soft rock tune with piano backing. Seger recorded it with his band The Silver Bullet Band. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“As Time Goes By” is a jazz song that was written by Herman Hupfeld in 1931. The song became popular when it was featured in the 1942 film “Casablanca” and performed by Dooley Wilson portraying Sam. It is listed at number two on the AFI’s 100 Years…100 Songs. The song has been covered by many different artists both male and female. Besides the original recording, my other favorite version was sung by American singer and songwriter Harry Nilsson. In the 1990s this song became the title and theme song of the British romantic comedy series “As Time Goes By”.

“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” is a song that was written by Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson in 1966. It became a successful hit for Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terell in 1967. In the early 1970s, the song was recorded by American singer and actress Diana Ross. It became her first solo number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“All I Have to Do Is Dream” is a song that was written by the husband-and-wife songwriting team Felice and Boudleaux Bryant in 1958. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it at number 141 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The best-known version of this song was recorded by the American rock duo The Everly Brothers. It quickly rose to number one on all of the Billboard singles charts and number one on the R&B chart and became the third chart-topper by The Everly Brothers on the country chart.

“All My Loving” is a song that was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney. It was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles and is on their second UK album With the Beatles that came out in 1963. The song went to number one in Canada when released as a single and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1964.

“Another Saturday Night” is a song that was written and recorded by American singer and songwriter Sam Cooke in 1963. A popular version of the song was recorded by British singer and songwriter Cat Stevens in 1974. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts.

“American Pie” is a song that was written and recorded by the American singer and songwriter Don McLean in 1971. It is on his album of the same name, The song went to number one on all of the Billboard charts and topped the charts in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The RIAA listed the song at number 5 on the list of The Songs of the Century. The phrase “the day the music died” in the song refers to the tragic plane crash that killed early rock and roll stars Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens in 1959. To mark the 50th anniversary of the song, McLean performed a 35-day tour through Europe starting in Wales and ending in Austria in 2022.
