Music From the 90s Still Prevails

While it is now classic rock, 90s music is still being mixed with Modern Rock in the airwaves of most rock stations.

Back in the 90s, rock stations in Los Angeles played the typical iconic bands that ruled the airwaves. These bands included Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, and more. Also, old artists with new hip music still ruled, like Tom Petty, Prince (despite going more R&B in that era), Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, and so on.

A decade before that, rock stations played the artists from the respective era. Classic rock has always been put in the classic stations once they are a decade old, pretty much. However, 90s music is still being played with modern rock in many rock stations throughout the nation. Seriously! Yes, while it is included in classic rock stations since 90s music is now 20 years old, it still prevails with modern times. Yes, it is constantly played with new music!

What Sparked 90s Music?

When Seattle took the rock world by storm back in the early 90s, it changed the whole game. Hair Rock or Glam Metal was kicked out of the scene pretty much over night. Bands like Ratt, Motley Crue, Twister Sister, and others were suddenly not that cool anymore. Regular looking dudes were also jamming and making great music. These dudes included bands like Alice in Chains, Nirvana, The Melvins, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and more. All of these were from Seattle and they introduced Grunge to the rock scene.

Other bands were born in the 90s that were not from Seattle, like The Smashing Pumpkins, Helmet, Red Hot Chili Peppers (despite being around since the 80s), Jane’s Addiction, Green Day, and Primus. Of course, other bands from other cities joined this 90s wave of epic rock, which included many Metal bands as well. It was the 90s that was filled with rock, and it was sparked by a Seattle movement that splashed over the next decades to come.

Some older bands like Van Halen (AKA Van Haggar), Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Queen, and others made some pretty cool waves in the 90s. See, classic rock is always appreciated by the next generation, so the 90s paid their respect to their elders. Older rockers like Jeff Healey and Tom Petty had their hits as well in this wonderful decade of music. It was the 90s that eventually presented the alternative sound. It was a good decade for music.

90s Rockers That Are Still Rocking with Modern Rockers

For the most part, rock stations are playing 90s music still mixed in with the new hits. Yes, classic stations are playing everything classic that includes 90s tunes. However, a lot of 90s hits are being played constantly since these hits were massive back then and still are now.

Bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains are still repping. Others include the Red Hots, Jane’s Addiction, and Green Day. It’s not only their new hits, their old hits from the actual 90s are still hitting the airwaves with new music. Other 90s oldies include songs from Sublime, Bush, and No Doubt, which were more from the second half of the decade. It’s crazy how the whole decade still prevails with the new rock stations. The point is that music from the 90s is still boss in many stations.

Not Undermining New Music

There is a lot of good new talent out there in all genres of music. New artists are hitting new grounds with music. Some old listeners are very particular with the new music, maybe because music seems to have simplified a bit? Who knows? It is all about opinion. But, 60s, 70s, and 80s music is not being played in the new rock stations. Unless it is a flashback hour or classic tunes session. When it comes to rocking out music, 90s music is always included nowadays. No matter what! While new music has some cool rockers and talented artists, they share the airways with classic songs written by many 90s artists. That is how badass 90s rock music was and will be for a long time!
