As 2020 comes to an end and 2021 rolls in, I can't help but reflect on the role music has had in my year. Music has been one of the saving graces of 2020. Not only have we gotten some major chart-topping bops from our favorite pop stars, but we've also gotten to delve into the lives of all artists who have had to deal with everything this year has had to offer. Fortunately for you, I have compiled my Top 20 song from 2020 to share with you. These songs have shaped my year one way or another. Below you will find my Top 20 in no particular order; under some of those songs, you might find why that particular song made it on my list! After you go through my Top 20, please find me on social media (@mxsonarita) and share with me what you think of my selection! Tell me, what was your Top 20?

Regina del Carmen - Villain

"They are mad cause they know that I'm winning" this line alone is why this song made it to my Top 20. Regina del Carmen's entire "29" album is ear candy, and I can not stop listening!

Destino and Tyler Ashton - Close

"Put your body next to mine,"! When this song came out, I was 100 percent crush-less, but it definetely made me wish I had someone to crush on. This song was in a couple of my late night playlists.

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande - Rain On Me

"Rain On Me, Tsunami" - It's a bop.

Toño Wilson - Sign

"Alright, let's check my co-star app..." This song is honestly the biggest mood, especially in 2020. I was glued to my co-star app probably just as much as I was attached to Toño's music.

Ms. Boogie and Trannilish - Fem Queen

"Come swim in it like the big fish" - you need to watch this video. You need to listen to Ms. Boogie and Trannilish; that's it. This song, along with other songs by and ft. Ms. Boogie have taken over my 2020 playlist.

Sailorfag - Inventadas Y Modernas

Sailorfag "Inventadas y Modernas" Music Video

"Tarde dos pinches horas en mi puto maquillaje." Even though this song was released in 2018, it made my 2020 Top 20 because I've been listening to it non-stop.

Asher Jaffe - Solitude

Asher Jaffe "Solitude" Cover Art

"What doesn't end up in my favor is not meant for me."

Rebecca Black - Self Sabotage

"I self sabotage. I self sabotage. I self-sabotage every little thing..." Need I say more?

Trixie Mattel - I Do Like You

Trixie Mattel "Barbara" Cover Art

"You never say never, but you never say when." Honestly, if I listened to music on Spotify, my "year in review" would have probably put me in Trixie's .0000000001 percent of listeners.

Mykki Blanco and Devendra Banhart - You Will Find It

If I could quote this entire song on her, I would. Just listen to it. If I could describe how this song makes me feel, I would say that it makes me want to take a road trip through space.

Rina Sawayama - Lucid

Rina Sawayama "Lucid"

This song had me dancing around in my room every night, pretending to be at the club.

Shamir - On My Own

Shamir "On My Own" Music Video

The music video to this song was released so close to my birthday; it was my summer bop since then. The music! The Visuals! I fell in love the first time I heard this song.

Shea Diamond - So Lucky

Shea Diamond "So Lucky" Cover Art

Shea Diamond is probably one of my favorite musicians of all time. This song has a special place in my heart. I could listen to this song alone for hours as a playlist.

Flor de Toloache - No Sigas

Flor de Toloache "Indestructible" Cover Art

I honestly don't think I can listen to mariachi music the same after listening to Flor de Toloache. They are a mind-blowing all-female mariachi band from New York.

Monét X Change - March

Monét X Change March Music Video

"After the smoke clears, we still march." This song and video are perfect. Perfect in almost every sense of the word.

Sydney Gorgeous and Keagan - 1 Time

Bop. I listened to this song on Christmas Eve, and I wouldn't be surprised if it were my most listened to song this year...

Cardi B and Megan The Stallion - WAP

"I wanna gag. I wanna choke" Do I really need to explain WHY this made it to my Top 20. If you're wondering why, I might be asking you, why not?

Bronze Avery - Boys!

Bronze Avery "Boys!" Music Video

"It's something 'bout boys!" This song. Ufffff... It was all I listened to in April. I can't even describe my feeling in words.

Dizzy Fae - "I'm Good"

Dizzy Fae "I'm Good" Music Video

"I'mma be okay." This song and video gave me some major nastalgia. To what? I don't know, but let me delve straight into it.

Peppermint - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?

Peppermint "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" Music Video

I am not joking when I say this music video was released as I was finishing writing all of this up. I heard it and it had to go on my list. I love Peppermint's music, and I am so excited to end the year ecstatic to hear more of her music in 2021.

Happy New Year everyone! Here's to more music in 2021! <3
