LIVE Review: Mirrorgloss
A Set Defined by Positivity and Self-Love
“Let’s GO! That’s a vibe!” a concertgoer shouted at besties Del Brown and Najamoniq Todd, the dynamic duo of the electronic, pop heart-throb Mirrorgloss. Visiting from Tacoma, Washington, Del and Najamoniq left everything on the stage at The Iron Bear Tuesday night. Opening the night with their song “I Wonder,” Mirrorgloss brought the dance drip to SXSW from start to finish. With a powerful and charismatic stage presence, Mirrorgloss’ set was defined by positivity as they delivered their message of self acceptance and love.
Formed in 2012, Mirrorgloss has been through some changes over the years, scaling back from a four member band to rely solely on the vocals from Del and Najamoniq in order to create the unique sound that is Mirrorgloss. Najamoniq’s soulful, deep vocals over synthesizer sounds paired nicely with the rough and rugged vibe emanating from Del. The energetic partnership between the two artists allows them to play off one another’s vibe, producing an engaging experience for concert goers. Watching Mirrorgloss perform can pull anyone out of a funk as the two radiate optimism and self-love.
“Life’s too short. You deserve love no matter who you are, no matter where you are!” Del directed the crowd over raspy, yet alluring notes from Najamoniq in between songs.
Broadcasted via Facebook Live, Mirrorgloss’ SXSW performance garnered international attention and quickly drew a crowd from passersby—soon enough Iron Bear regulars, SX attendees, and locals alike were captivated by their electronic pop, dance rock combo.
Their sound and their down-to-earth charisma intimately drew the crowd in, making concert-goers feel as if they’ve known Del and Najamoniq for years—a true rarity in today’s world of musical hypebeasts and clout-catchers.
In return, the pair was met with, “Go Mirrorgloss! Go Mirrorgloss!” chants, proving the crowd was feeling best friend twosome as much as they were feeling each other.
Although their set’s overall tone was a positive one, their music still pulls on heavy themes like love, self-doubt, and moving on. Mirrorgloss was refreshing and enticing, as hints of jazzy soul were weaved throughout their new wave electro-pop set. Del and Najamoniq are a living, breathing example of what it means to be true to oneself, which is evident both in their uncommon sound and unparalleled style. Mirrorgloss’ SXSW set celebrated what it truly means to be human in an era of self-doubt and negativity.
