Quarantine, lockdown, shutdown, whatever we called it, it was definitely something to remember whether we like it or not. I left my job that would soon be classified as non-essential and ended up in an average job from the past life, that became an equivalent to a soldier in the army - the supermarket.

If I didn't have music to cure my now high-risky blues, I think I would have died. Music is (and still is) my counterpart, the one that brings joy to my soul. I think this applies to everyone. So, here is a toast to the very thing, that kept my thoughts grounded, and my soul nourished. Here is a top ten to the songs that did me wonders. Be on the look out for some of these songs that feature on Tik Tok!

1. Don't Stop Movin' - S Club 7

We all love an upbeat banger to keep us pre-occupied, remind us of the good ol' days. In fact, I found myself religiously going back to S Club 7, just to relive those happy days. S Club 7 reminds me of my mum, who lives in another city. I was supposed to see them at Easter but due to lockdown, this didn't happen. This song (and Bring it all back) feature in my Bible of Life.

2. In the Air - L.A.B

Another song that I share with my mum, this song became a staple diet of New Zealand's summer this year. This song can be played at a small gathering drink-up with the mates or on a lazy day off, either way its something to listen too when you want to forget about reality. This song has definitely helped me forget reality on more than one occasion during this lockdown!

3. Supalonely - Benee

I'm sorry Benee but I absolutely disliked this song when it first came out, until all major media platforms killed it. Eventually, I found myself singing "I been lonely, mmm, uh, yeah..." The beat is a killer, so i associated it to happy things, such as my partner, my bubble pal. My partner is sick of this song because I overplay it. But, like the many songs on my playlist, this song has got (and will continue on getting me) through this Covid19 fiasco.

4. Intentions - Justin Bieber

A playlist isn't a playlist unless it has the Biebs attached to it. The song has a kick-back vibe to it, that makes me feel good. Mind you, most of Biebs songs (after an overkill of them on the social media platforms) eventually make us all have a guilty pleasure for the Biebs, as much of us deny having such a thing. Biebs intentions really, is to have another earworm crawling around his listener's ears!

5. Say so - Doja Cat

This 70s porno-style banger was another song I hated when it came out, but as time grew on (following numerous people on Tik Tok doing Doja vids), I fell in love the banger. This blonde-headed rapper tries to seduce the handyman trying to fix her record player which is why I described it as a 70s porno, would definitely go off in the club, I imagine. Until then, we will never know, because, by the time clubs will reopen, this song will be like a stale turd left on the side of the toilet bowl.

6. Don't start now - Dua Lipa

Some creative spark at The Edge came up with a Covid19 Do Not list that incorporated the pre-chorus of this song which made me look into more of Dua's new album. The majority of her songs can be Covid19-related which makes me wonder - did Dua Lipa foreshadow this global pandemic? Honourable mentions to this list; Break my heart & Physical both by Dua Lipa, both feel good tracks that gives us hindsight to what we are all experiencing due to Covid19!

7. Memories - Maroon 5

Just that. Memories. This song played one day during one of my worse weeks where I was just feeling depressed and then memories of life prior to the lockdown, came flooding back. The plan to see family back home, the taste of a decent mocha, the taste of chocolate cake made by my friends at the local bakery I go too - the things we took for granted when it was easy access but now, we have hit a brick wall. The sombre beat and tone from Mr. Levine, only brings back the vibe of memories.

8. Bad Romance - Lady Gaga

Nothing like some upbeat Lady Gaga to stimulate one's sadness. This song came out when I was amongst university studies, getting drunk and being a student. Like the previous song, Gaga brings memories of being happy and living life to the max. I think that's what most people are missing the most, about being in quarantine - living life to the max. There's also nothing wrong with screaming at the top of your lungs, "A stupid romance."

9. Men in black - Will Smith.

That intro gets me every time and I remember as a kid, adjusting the stereo levels to create an effect that would scare people. Never happened. Anyway here goes, being a kid when this song came out, I remember when this would just go off at the school discos and everyone doing the dance with the crazy alien. Oh memories! This song got revitalised recently, on Tik Tok. It's been great seeing the creativity of people dancing to it, but nothing beats the video choreography. Nothing like listening to those female vocalists on the chorus either!

10. The Greatest - Six60

This song goes out to all the frontline workers! I made this the frontline workers because they have been the greatest. Six60 lyrics have always been the freshest (and touching!). Our essential workers have been overworked around the globe and we are all thankful for their hard work! I believe that this song should be something they listen too, when life has hit that brickwall. The lyrics are so uplifting, "Some days it feels like I don't wanna go any farther, The only way I know to keep on is to keep pushin' harder."
