JILIAAN London based German singer songwriter

There’s a new female singer songwriter talent in the town that brought you Adele. Yes, London Town is the home to German born star to be JILIAAN who has just dropped her first single ‘Little Do You Know’ on the resolutely independent record label New Reality Records.

Originally from Hamburg, Germany, JILIAAN has been moving around since the age of 13 and now calls London her musical home. Throughout her life there has been a constant anchor that keeps her grounded and is integral to her creative process - the piano! It’s on the piano that JILIAAN truly comes creatively to life and it’s on the piano that she writes her beautifully crafted songs.

Little Do You Know is JILIAAN’s first ever single release and it’s an amazing song of love and loss. JILIAAN tells us:

“Little Do You Know is my first ever completely finished song, which I wrote out of confusion about love, and the frustration that came from being so confused and restless. Feeling like you want to be with someone so badly but know that you shouldn’t because it is not the right time, and not knowing what to do about this… Being stuck in a vicious cycle of thoughts, trying to make a decision and understand the kind of love you feel!”

Who hasn’t grappled with such thoughts about and on love? Especially when young but actually these feelings can happen at any stage of life.. love knows no age barriers and neither does a broken heart.

Little Do You Know by JILIAAN

Little Do You Know starts with a plaintiff piano joined by JILIAAN’s beautiful voice. Soon she is joined by a band but always to the front and always mesmerising is JILIAAN’s voice, every word lived through the notes and passed on to us. It’s the kind of voice that causes the hairs on the back of your neck to raise and tingle.

JILIAAN says:

“I’m here to share and connect by unveiling emotions through my passion for music.”

Russ Ralph of New Reality Records says:

“When Paul first played Little Do You Know to us in the kitchen of his house we couldn’t believe this was her first single. Her sound is so well developed and the songwriting is superb. I honestly believe that she could be as big as Adele.”

JILIAAN is currently writing new material, compositions and lyrics emerging straight from the heart and hoping that when she has finally finished them and shared them that they will strike home with those listening.

JILIAAN’s story as an artist is just at its start and she’s looking forward to sharing her musical journey with the world, a musical journey that is in itself a kind of home. Her work sits compositionally somewhere between the classical and the contemporary with a strong ear for the kind of lyrical and musical hooks that great pop songs are made of. JILIAAN is one of those rare talents that seems to need to be writing and performing music as much as she needs to breathe.

That JILIAAN is part of the tiny and fiercely independent New Reality Records instead of a major label might seem a mystery to many but it somehow feels right and it will be interesting to see what might come out of any collaborations with others of the diverse group of artists on the label that brought you Kev Crane (The Singing Plumber), Brazil’s Venus Aphrodite, upstate New York’s Black Lake, Loughborough’s Emily Ralph, Edinburgh’s Will of Margaret, Italy’s Rota Carnivora, Texan cybergrind artist Wrath and others!

The official video for Little Do You Know will be out in mid December and it promises to be something special and in line with the feeling of the song itself.

In the meantime Little Do You Know is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, in fact all streaming services.

JILIAAN is set for big things in 2023 and beyond. She is already planning for a series of low key live performances in London as she prepares for touring later in the year. Hamburg too rightly lays claim to JILIAAN but it is London that she is staking her claim to future musical recognition and stardom and London loves her as much as she loves London!
