How You Can Support Your Favorite Indie Artist in 2021

Ways to support creatives you love

I think we can all agree that calling 2020 a rough year would be the understatement of the century. The world was turned upside down people lost their jobs, loved ones, and even their hope. The entertainment industry took a huge hit and was wiped to the floor and KOed. It is probably going to take years for a full recovering to live events and entertainment and this includes music. Artists really learned to struggle this past year. Our goal for 2021 as a label is to help indie artists, who are new to the music industry, begin to make their mark in this messed up industry. I wanted to start this year by giving you three ways you can help your favorite local artist or indie artists that you love. The first two are completely free for you to do and extremely simple and won’t take you much time at all. The third one won’t necessarily cost you any extra money either since most people already pay for a streaming service and there are even free versions you can get to listen to music. Here is Roses as Humans list of ways to help artists:

1. Be interactive with them on social media

This is very important to help anyone in a creative field. Social media and the way artists get exposure is constantly changing. Likes used to be everything and by getting more likes social platforms would push your content harder to new potential fans. That is not the case in 2021. Social platforms like to see interaction now so if you want your post to show up in people’s feed then you need fan interaction in the comment section or by having your post shared. Next time you see an artist make a post on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc. Take a second to comment and share their music on your story. This helps more than you could even imagine. This one simple action could give the artist the exposure he or she needs for their new project to take off.

2. Share with your friends and family

A simple share can work wonders in a musician's career. Musicians work very hard to create a piece of art and it can be terrifying to release it to the world. It means the world to an artist when people show they care by sharing what they’ve released. It doesn’t have to be hard either we all have friends and family that we can quickly send a link to when we see a new song dropped.

3. Stream their music or buy their album

The ultimate goal for anyone releasing music besides expressing themselves is for people to hear it and hopefully reach new people. You can help an artist who is struggling by continuing to stream their music and adding it to one of your playlists. With events not happening right now, the main source of an artist's income is through streaming and unfortunately, a single stream does not earn them very much. Put that song from your friend's band on repeat and jam out to your favorite new song they just released.

I hope this list can encourage you to help those who are putting themselves out there for the world and creating new music for us to listen to. It is so simple in 2021 to support an artist without purchasing any merchandise. Speaking of merchandise this is another way you can support artists but I didn’t include it in the list because that costs a little more money and I know not everyone can afford to purchase merchandise right now. But if you just do all the three things above you will help out your artist friends more than you could even imagine.
