Great Music for Your Enjoyment :)

At my age (sixty-six,) my body needs some persuading. But, to be honest, it's always needed a nudge when it comes to housework and all the other mundane tasks I deplore. But those jobs must be done, right? So, I turn to music. Music takes me back to a time when my old limbs moved better and faster. The rhythm of some of my favorites trick these old bones into doing something besides clicking. With music, even long road trips make the odometer go by faster. Music is a strong motivator and a very positive coach for the not so inclined, like me. Can you relate?

Get it, Gramps!

Since my era was most likely that of your grandparent's, sharing this with them might put a little pep in their step, too. And if you've never heard of some of these songs, well....get ready for some fun to help you stay focused on whatever the game that must be won in your world! Can you say, "DISCO?"

Let's Go

Definition of Disco: The term "disco" is shorthand for the word discothèque, a French word for "library of phonograph records" derived from "bibliothèque". (Wikipedia) With a library of records, then surely, people had to have a place to dance to them....thus, discotheques were born. And the party began!

These twenty-five classic examples from my era are guaranteed to get you up and moving, give you an energy boost. Or, if you are my grandchildren, a good laugh...either way, you are having fun, right? Don't underestimate your granny. She can show you a few moves.

Warning: If you are driving and listening, watch the gas pedal. Speeding tickets have been given out while listening. And if you are like me, I like my music LOUD, so watch for the blue lights, too. You might not hear the sirens.

Facts & History of "Disco:"

According to Wikipedia, "Disco is a genre of dance music and a subculture that emerged in the 1970s from the United States' urban nightlife scene. Its sound is typified by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, horns, electric piano, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars."

Can't you just picture your grandparents on the dance floor?

That's Granny doing the Table Top

"Disco can be seen as a reaction by the 1960s counterculture to both the dominance of rock music and the stigmatization of dance music at the time. Several dance styles were developed during the period of disco's popularity in the United States, including "the Bump" and "the Hustle"." (Wikipedia)

Disco was the last popular music movement driven by Baby Boomers, peaking in popularity during the mid-late 1970s. It declined as a major trend in popular music during the late 1970s to early 1980s, but remained a key influence in the development of electronic dance music, house music, hip-hop, new wave, and post-disco. While no new disco movement has dominated popular music since its decline, the style has had several revivals since the 1990s, and the influence of disco remains strong across American and European pop music. Who would have thought this? According to (Wikipedia:)

"2020s: Resurgence in the popularity of disco and related cultural phenomena"

And this young lady is responsible

British singer, Dua Lipa has been credited by critics for leading the revival of disco following the widespread international success of her single "Don't Start Now" and her album Future Nostalgia.

Don't Start Now

In a statement, Dua Lipa said of the song:

I chose to put this song out first so I could close one chapter of my life and start another. Into a new era with a new sound! It’s about moving on and not allowing anyone to get in the way of that. It also felt like a natural first song choice as I made it with the brilliant same crew I made “New Rules” with.

Good for her! I'm glad that this sassy, fun music is coming back! Ready to boogie???
