Foo Fighters - 'Medicine At Midnight' : Worst to Best

It's definitely better than Sonic Highways

Dave Grohl is clearly a legend but that doesn't mean that every song bangs. Most of them do though, let's be honest.

9. 'No Son Of Mine'

It's a not great 'ace of spades' inspired song. Kind of. Whatever. It isn't nearly as good as the rest of the album.

Listen.

8. 'Chasing Birds'

I don't think you can be this far into a music career and use the lyric 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions' But otherwise a fairly solid song but nothing particularly interesting.

Listen.

7. 'Waiting On A War'

Aren't we all waiting on a war. We are. We're all waiting on a war. We don't want it but it's definitely there. Lurking in the background. I'm sidestepping the song a bit here but it's a good song. They're all good bar 'no son of mine'.

Listen.

6. 'Medicine At Midnight'

For the title track this is pretty decent. Solid solos. Funky beats. Even when Foo Fighters are average for them it's above the average for most over bands.

Listen.

5. 'Shame Shame'

Absolute vibe. Listen, I'm trying to write this article while two of my friends are talking to me. So I'm very distracted and continually professional.

'I found a reason and buried it

Beneath the mountain of emptiness'

Imagine writing lyrics like this and also using 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions' or whatever it was, I will not scroll to check.

Listen.

4. 'Love Dies Young'

Loves dies young but we're happy about it? The trend of upbeat songs about sad topics. At this point it's not a trend it's a sub-sub-genre but whatever it bangs almost every time and this song is no exception.

Love dies young and there's no resuscitation

Once it's done, no regeneration

It's a losing game that'll make you play

Your hand against your chest

Love dies young

Those words don't make you think about the lovely upbeat music you get with them. But it works like it always does.

Listen.

3. 'Holding Poison'

There's nothing particularly special about the lyrics in this but it is an absolute bop. The solo with those high note vocals is legitimately incredible. This album is so much better than i was expecting it to be after hearing 'No Son Of Mine' what a rubbish song. Coming along and getting itself all over this album. 'Holding the poison down' refers specifically to that song.

Listen.

2. 'Cloudspotter'

Another bop. Because obviously. There's nothing bad about this it bangs the whole way through. The repeated 'cloudspotter' in a deeper voice. The female vocal addition. The little breakdown in the middle. The mini turn into a harder hitting song bloody lovely. Then it follows up even more in the last section. Honestly what a bop.

Listen.

1. 'Making A Fire'

It's not often the opening track to an album is one of the best if not the best and the following album isn't terrible. But I guess when you've got around 30 years of solid music behind you, you know what you're doing most of the time. As always I'm not saying this ranking is the final definite ranking but I am also saying any disagreements are wrong. Just all round solid song and an all round solid album bar the bad one.

Thank You For Reading

Thank you. Thank you.

I am now going to play the new zombies map with my friend and write two more articles based around Foo fighters so kep an eye out for those and we can be real happy about how much we agree or real upset at how much we disagree but either I'm glad you clicked on the article and I'll see you next time.
