I'm the first to shout "love is love" from every high-point around, but let's keep it real, LOVE SUCKS! Love is great when it's great and ultimately gut wrenching when it's bad. You have not been in love if you've never experienced heartbreak. If you've never had a sleepless night wondering how it all turned to sh*t. Love is a enigma of sorts, everyone wants it, it's craved and desired and then when you get it and it turns sour, you're willing to give your heart to the devil himself to stop the hurt. If you've been in love and had it snatched back, you have felt the lowest of the lows, and thought the most diabolical thoughts all in the name a healing your broken heart. The most cathartic action we can take when in pain is to find a distraction, to feed something else beside the pain.
Music is the perfect distraction and in many instances the perfect escape from your feelings. An anti-love playlist serves as a boost to your mood, it serves as a tool to get over the hurt and what helps hurt is a little musical anger. Similar to the scene from Someone Special, (if you don’t know it, watch it) where Lizzo’s Truth Hurts is blaring while a heartbroken ex-girlfriend signs along in her underwear and her friend joins in a harmony. In that moment she knew she wasn’t alone in her hurt and in fact being mad about it was okay, being outwardly hurt was okay. That scene speaks volumes for love gone wrong, how one song can say everything you can’t. How one song can make you better, even for a moment.
I've been hurt, I've spent days with tear filled eyes, and an empty belly with only caffeine keeping me alive. Wondering what in the total f*ck happened. You know this feeling all to well, well if you've ever been in love. What got you through it all? What made you feel like you could or would be okay again, if even for a moment? Music! good ole "f*ck-you", music.
