There's something bigger than a movie happening right now. MICHAEL is turning into a full cultural moment. From the very first announcement, the energy surrounding this film has been undeniable, but the global rollout has taken things to another level. Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International didn't just promote a film , they created an experience. From HBCU marching bands honoring Michael Jackson's legacy, to immersive pop-up events in New York City, to premieres in Berlin and celebrations in Gary, Indiana, the world has been moving to the rhythm of Michael once again. Fans have gathered in the streets as DJs spin his music, social media is flooded with excitement, and even the Jackson family has shown up in support. This isn't just hype , it's love.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King, MICHAEL brings audiences closer than ever to the man behind the legend. The film captures his early years and the beginning of his solo career, giving a front-row seat to the rise of the greatest entertainer of all time. Jaafar Jackson steps into the role of his uncle, introducing a new generation to Michael's story while honoring the legacy longtime fans have cherished for decades.

In my exclusive conversation with Antoine Fuqua, we talked about the magnitude of telling Michael Jackson's story and the responsibility that comes with it. He shared how overwhelming it has been to witness fans across the world respond not only to the film, but to the entire promotional rollout. There's a deep emotional connection people still carry for Michael, and Fuqua made it clear that this film was created with that love and respect at the forefront. He also spoke about his collaboration with Graham King and what it meant to receive praise from the Jackson family. Something he does not take lightly.

One of the most meaningful parts of our conversation was hearing how people who loved Michael showed up for this project in a real way. Some came out of retirement, others turned down different opportunities, all to be a part of honoring his legacy. That level of commitment reflects just how deeply Michael Jackson's impact continues to resonate.

What makes this film feel so important is that it goes beyond the music. Michael Jackson wasn't just an artist,  he was a humanitarian. His message was always rooted in love, unity, and healing the world. He broke barriers across race, culture, and sound, using his platform to bring people together in ways few ever have. Even now, years after his passing, his influence continues to grow. New fans discover him every day, proving that his impact is truly timeless.

MICHAEL promises an honest and cinematic portrayal of a brilliant yet complex man - his triumphs, his struggles, and the intense spotlight he lived under. But at its core, this film is about legacy. It's about remembering the heart behind the artistry, the purpose behind the music, and the man who wanted to heal the world.

If you’ve been checking out the trailers released so far, you can already see so many iconic moments being recreated, such as the Victory and Bad tours, the “Thriller” and “Beat It” videos, the recording of the Off the Wall album, Motown 25, and more. From the Jackson 5 era to Michael’s early solo career, the trailers have given us a glimpse of what to expect. While still leaving a sense of curiosity and excitement for what hasn’t been revealed yet. Those who have already seen the film in early screenings are praising it, along with Antoine, Jafaar and the entire cast and crew, which is building even more anticipation. A biopic of this magnitude is poised to be one of the biggest movies of the year, with hopes for an Oscar sweep, and maybe even becoming one of the biggest-selling movies of all time. I mean, it’s about Michael Jackson, so those predictions aren’t far-fetched.

The casting reflects just how deeply this story is connected to music history. Larenz Tate steps into the role of Motown founder Berry Gordy, while Kat Graham portrays Diana Ross, a lifelong influence on Michael. Jessica Sula takes on La Toya Jackson, Liv Symone plays Gladys Knight, Kendrick Sampson embodies Quincy Jones, KeiLyn Durrel Jones portrays trusted confidante Bill Bray, and Kevin Shinick appears as Dick Clark. The film also features Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Michael's mother and a central source of strength in his life, and Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, whose complex role as both father and manager helped shape the trajectory of the Jackson family.

The most famous person to ever live still has fans this excited, almost like he’s coming back for a one-night-only concert. As the April 24, 2026 release approaches, the message feels clear: this is more than a film to watch, it's one to show up for. It's a chance to celebrate Michael Jackson, to honor everything he gave, and to keep his legacy alive for generations to come.
