Superstar Nigerian singer Wizkid finally released the music video to his heavily celebrated and widely popular song, "Essence" featuring Tems.

The song was one of the breakout songs of 2020 and one of the most successful singles to result from his 2020 album 'Made in Lagos'. It even got a place in former United States president Barack Obama's end-of-year list.

After Wizkid announced that the video would be dropping on the 9th of April, fans immediately started getting excited and filled with anticipation.

It is now April 9th and the music video has finally dropped. I'll leave you to watch it if you haven't already, then we'll talk.

It's a really good video right?! I know.

While some people enjoyed the video and some did not, one thing that I noticed is that a lot of people were either confused or oblivious to some of the images and shots in the music video.

So, in celebration of the video and in celebration of music and art, I have decided to compile a list of Everything You Missed in the Wizkid and Tems' 'Essence' video.

Are you ready to jump in? Then let's go!

The Video Was Produced By PriorGold Pictures.

Remember Rema's "Bounce" video that came out just this week as well, it may surprise you to know that it is the same director and production company that produced the video for that song that did this one too.

The video was directed by DK under the PriorGold Pictures company.

Wizkid's Fashion.

You see this simple beret that Wizkid is wearing on his head, it's a sold-out Gucci beret which retails for 290 euros which is about $345.35 which is equivalent to N132,000.

Wizkid also signed a deal with sports brand PUMA last year. He is now an ambassador of the brand - that is why there were multiple shots of Puma shoes all over the video.

The Video Was Shot in Ghana

If you're wondering what part of the world the impeccable video was shot, it was shot in Ghana. Also, get this - the director himself is from Ghana and the video became the number 1 trend in Ghana upon release

Tems' Yansh Controversy

After the video came out, there was immediately a bit of uproar. Many people clicked on the video to see Tems' backside for some reason. Some people were very vocally upset about the fact that throughout the video she never turned to give them what they wanted

But that was kinda the point. Everything Tems wore in this video was made to cover her up but still give grown and sexy.

Her Anime Reference

Also something you might have missed is that with Tems' final look in the video, the white dress:

She was giving homage to something she loves and has talked about before - manga and animation. Tems has been open about how much of a manga freak she is citing 'Attack on Titan’, ‘Darker Than Black’, and Demon Slayeras some of her best shows. With this video, she picked this outfit specifically because of the manga graphic and her love for manga.

What did you think of the Essence video?
