Dream Legacy

Andy Paynes started the Dream Legacy project in January 2019. One of his personal goals in life was to compose and produce a heavy rock album. At a young age Andy had played as a guitarist in local rock bands in southern Germany for about 8 years, before he kept his guitar in his suitcase for about 25 years.

In early 2019, Andy set up a home studio, began composing songs and recording song by song. Not knowing where the "journey" was going with the music and the songs. But after finishing the first two songs "Don`t Waste Your Time" and "Let It Rock" Andy was very motivated to write more songs with great commitment.

Andy asked, in April 2020, his former bandmates from the 80s, Ebo Hösch, John Zell, Ryan Zell, but of course also André Carswell, to form the rock band "Dream Legacy" together.

Now a singer was missing for the songs. Hayo recommended André Carswell, an American professional singer who already had a lot of experience and had been successful with the band Anyone‘s Daughter, among others. In April/May 2020, André had the time and desire to sing the songs with a lot of dedication and commitment, also because of the corona pandemic.

Q: Do you have a preferred genre?

Preferred genre is classic rock. Dream Legacy is making heavy rock, classic rock, rock ballads, rockn'roll, power rock

Q: Tell us about your latest song, “Set Me Free”.

Set Me Free kicks off with some huge guitar tones, at times reminiscent of stadium-sized bands such as Foo Fighters or Biffy Clyro.

However, the vocals will immediately take the audience to a completely different place, straying from that “alt-rock” sound and diving deeper into the timeless sound of 80s rock music. The swagger and melody of the singing are reminiscent of legendary bands such as Skid Row or Def Leppard. Still, there is something more upfront and unique about Dream Lega-cy’s compositional style.

The group isn’t just trying to recreate the 80s sound verbatim, but rather update it with some fresh modern sounds and a dash of alternative, which makes the music a bit more raw around the edges, giving it an extra kick without compromising in terms of appeal and integrity.

Clocking in at 4 minutes and 53 seconds, the song packs quite a punch, showing off the band’s attitude and great energy. One of the most unique things about Dream Lega-cy is definitely the fact that the group’s music is very multi-faceted. In other words, there is a lot to unfold.

The new track offers a fantastic balance between melody and aggression, falling in that magical (or should we say “dream-like?”) state that’s right in between.

Q: How has the reaction to your latest release been?

The release was yesterday, so I have to wait for the reaction.

Q: Do you have any other plans relating to this release? A video?

We released already videos. Also, to the new song. Watch on YouTube.

Q: It looks like 2021 was a creative year. Does this have anything to do with the pandemic or just feeling creative? Will we see the same energy in 2022?

We are just feeling creative. Now we use the time to prepare us for gigs after the pandemic. You will see the same energy also in 2022, new songs get already written.

Q: What is the best song you ever released and why?

I can`t say, which is the best song. Till now we released 4 songs on Spotify & co. Till now I composed the album of 15 songs, which is already done and 5 more songs.

Haha my newest song is my favourite song right now.

Seriously, all songs are good, listen to the 4 released songs. The other songs have the same quality. On the digital stores we will only release 5-6 songs, then we release the full album only as a CD. The only possibility for an indie rock band to earn a bit money are concerts and selling CDs.

Q: Are there any challenging aspects to writing and/or recording your music?

I recorded all songs in my home studio. The challenge was writing real good songs. Happily, I was able to compose 20 real good songs till now. Have a listen to the 4 released songs on the digital stores 😊

Q: What song do fans seem to favor?

It depends of the taste of the audience, which genre they prefer.

All songs are founded in classic rock of the 80ies paired with progressive and modern elements. The first 4 releases show the different genres of our music. Heavy Rock (The End oft he World), classic rock (Feel The Love), rock ballad (Really Loving You), hard rockn`n roll (Set Me Free)

Q: Playing live or recording in studio? Do you have a preference?

Both is great. But my clear goal is playing life for presenting these awesome songs. Playing for a huge audience who love our music is our main goal. I love to express this powerful songs together with my bandmates with passion. Be assure, we won`t stay only on stage and play the songs. We all love a great performance with tons of passion.

Q: Which of your songs is, or do you think would be, fun to perform live?

All songs are made to perform life. They will sound great.

Q: What would be your ideal press headline, either now or in the future? In which publication? Why?

Press headline: "Out of the blue came a German classic rock band…."

This music is for all rock music fans. We are sure, 8 of 10 classic rock fans will like our music.

Q: Is there a message in your music?

Yes, of course.

Dream Legacy stands for: To live our life for rock music and to fulfill our dream, to create timeless rock music, to play it live and to give and leave a timeless musical monument to our audience.

Our messages stand for life experiences, inspiration, feelings and fantasy stories.

The title of the album "Once In A Lifetime" stands for Andy Paynes' dream and goal of producing a rock album once in a lifetime.

But there will be already more music. 5 new songs are already recorded.

Q: Do you create music for yourself or for fans?

Our legacy is leaving behind wonderful music, when we are gone.

Of course I created this music for fans to give them more happiness in their lives.

Q: Share a funny moment or positive experience that the band has experienced together.

We made music when we were young in the 80ies, now we are old and do music together again. Hopefully, till our last breath. Music is so wonderful, so creative and really fulfilling with happiness, it is my passion. Now I regret, that I didn´t make music at all in between 1988-2016. I was simply working hard to make my life, working for living. But up from now I do my passion.

Q: If one artist were to perform at your party, who would get the call?

Haha. I love the rock band Pretty Maids. I would call them. They are my idols.

Q: Other than fame & fortune, is there something you hope to achieve through music?

For me, music is expression and transporting feelings. My personal main goal is leaving behind an awesome, immortal music. Earning money is not my main goal. To find and win a huge audience of fans, who love our music is my main goal. But of course, I am happy when ii can cover the costs of the production and promotion oft he music, which I finance till now by my own.

Q: What is your favorite/best outlet to connect with your followers Instagram, Spotify, FB, Twitter, iTunes? How would you want them to follow?

I put my focus on Instagram (@dreamlegacy9). This is the platform, where Dream Legacy is most active. Easy to communicate with our fans, too. Please get follower on Instagram 😊 But Facebook and Twitter is also possible. We just opened an account on Twitter (@dreamlegacy9).

Q: Are you currently working on any projects we should look out for?

I wrote a song for Ronnie Atkins, the vocalist of Pretty Maids. The song`s called "You are the One“. Sadly, Ronnie got very sick and I want to encourage him as best as I can.

In the next months we will release our next song of our album "Once in a Lifetime“. The song is called "Let It Rock“, an absolute power rock song. And of course, the release of the album "Once in a Lifetime“.

Q: Is there something you would like to say, that I didn't cover?

Don`t waste your time (this is the title of a power rock song of the album too), we won`t live for ever. Do what you really like to do in your life, don`t wait too long, time is so short. Think and live positive and be always able to forgive. Be kind and respectful to all human being and all living being.
