Dinosaur Jr. Extends There Near Tour Into 2027

The alternative-rock veterans will return to North America next year with support from Starcrawler and a surreal new video for “Everything At Once”

Just days after beginning a tour behind their first new album in five years, Dinosaur Jr. have announced an extension of their North American run into 2027. The newly added dates will run from February through March and will feature support from the Los Angeles rock band Starcrawler.

The announcement arrives as the band continues promoting There Near, their latest album and first full-length release since 2022. Led by founding members J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph, Dinosaur Jr. remains one of American alternative rock’s most enduring groups. Their combination of distorted guitars, melodic songwriting, loud dynamics, and Mascis’ instantly recognizable playing has continued to influence generations of musicians.

The 2027 shows will take the band across the United States and into Canada, with stops in major cities including New York, Philadelphia, Nashville, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, and Boston. The run begins February 11 at Brooklyn Steel in Brooklyn, New York, and concludes March 13 at Boston’s House of Blues.

Several cities will receive multiple performances or particularly prominent venues. Dinosaur Jr. will play two consecutive shows at Brooklyn Steel, while the itinerary also includes appearances at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl, Minneapolis’ First Avenue, Chicago’s Vic Theatre, and Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall.

Starcrawler will support the band on most of the announced dates. Known for their theatrical live shows and hard-driving blend of glam, punk, and garage rock, the Los Angeles group should provide a suitably energetic opening act for Dinosaur Jr.’s loud and guitar-focused performances.

The tour announcement was accompanied by a new music video for “Everything At Once,” one of the songs from There Near. Directed by Guy Kozak, the clip follows a medieval knight through an oddly ordinary day in rural America.

Rather than placing the character in a traditional fantasy setting, the video shows the knight performingis familiar domestic tasks. He mows the lawn, washes his car, barbecues, and spends time sitting on a fallen log in the woods. The contrast between his armor and the picturesque surroundings gives the video a surreal, quietly humorous quality.

The image of a medieval warrior performing everyday chores mirrors the tension often found in Dinosaur Jr.’s music. Their songs can be emotionally reflective while being delivered through huge guitars and forceful drums. The video’s unusual premise likewise combines the familiar with the unexpected, turning a series of ordinary activities into something visually strange.

“Everything At Once” also arrives at a moment when Dinosaur Jr. are emphasizing their continuing creative momentum. Although the band formed in the 1980s, they have maintained a remarkably consistent presence, releasing new music and touring regularly without abandoning the sound that established their reputation.

Earlier this year, Mascis also collaborated with former Minutemen and fIREHOSE bassist Mike Watt on a split 7-inch record featuring each musician covering a song by the other. The release highlighted their long-standing connection to the American underground-rock community and offered another example of Mascis’ continued interest in collaboration.

Dinosaur Jr. also spent the previous summer on a co-headlining tour of the United States with Snail Mail. That run brought the band’s classic alternative-rock sound to a new generation of audiences while pairing them with one of contemporary indie rock’s most prominent acts.

The upcoming dates suggest that the band’s touring schedule will remain active well into the next year. For fans, the shows will offer an opportunity to hear songs from There Near alongside material drawn from Dinosaur Jr.’s extensive catalog. The group’s live performances are particularly valued for their volume and intensity, as Mascis’ guitar work can move from hazy melody to explosive distortion within a single song.

The announced 2027 Dinosaur Jr. itinerary is as follows:

  • February 11: Brooklyn, NY — Brooklyn Steel

  • February 12: Brooklyn, NY — Brooklyn Steel

  • February 13: Philadelphia, PA — Union Transfer

  • February 16: Silver Spring, MD — The Fillmore

  • March 5: Chicago, IL — The Vic

  • March 6: Detroit, MI — The Majestic Theatre

With a new album, an offbeat music video, and an extended tour ahead, Dinosaur Jr. continue to demonstrate that their story is far from finished. More than four decades into their career, the band remain committed to the same essential formula: powerful guitars, memorable songs, and a willingness to let the music speak louder than anything else.
