In the halls of hip hop lore, there will always be a place for Dame Dash. The leading CEO of the genre has announced his own label: Dash Records. Yes, in an era when his first foray into the business of music on his own Dame Dash Music Group faltered and fell, he is back with another venture. Good on him. He’s seeking to work with the best artists, musicians, creatives, and whoever will sign a contract with him. All of his energies seemed to be focused on this go-around instead of the flawed America Nu network.

At this point Dame is going to have to be on top of everything and still come out a champion. If he doesn’t have that killer instinct, he will undoubtedly fail. But that appears unlikely. He has the chance to turn his dreams of running his own label (again) into something substantial.

For all the grief and turmoil he’s experienced over the years, the man keeps fighting. Like Dr. Leonard Peikoff, intellectual heir to philosopher and writer Ayn Rand, he’s tried a little bit of everything. He is in a band, he launched the aforementioned America Nu, he had a clothing line, a magazine, a liquor, a publishing company, amongst a whole host of other endeavors. Even if some of them petered out, he still dove head first into the water and showed his skills as a businessman.

The entrepreneur extraordinaire can count on his own wits to steer him through the rough waters of the industry. Because that’s what it is without reservations. People are here to make money from other people. The big names like his one-time friend and business partner Jay-Z is worth $2.8 billion. That means he probably made other people at least $5.6 billion in the process.

It’s a game, as the late great Dick Gregory once stated. All of this is a free-for-all in hip hop anyway. It’s not a culture, one with guidelines, rules, parameters, and a council. Folks just come and go out of the game without recognition sometimes and no remorse. Dash probably knows this. That’s why he has taken it upon himself to launch his own label. He’s poised to become a multi-billionaire himself if this venture is successful. All he has to do is find the right talent and the best minds in the biz. If he is able to do that, he’s got nothing else to prove.

His life partner and his son ground him and inspire him. She is like an anchor and his son is the ship. Whatever he does, he will have their support. His team will always back him up no matter what the case is. He will have the opportunity to bring to the world a new understanding in this cosmically shifting world of entertainment. With artificial means being an extremely hot topic in the Internet streets, it is impossible to not go into business nowadays and not be tech savvy. Hell, Dash tried to launch his own website called Block Savvy to compete with MySpace. With both domains either defunct or completely out of date, it appears as though Dash will have another go with this record label.

Whatever he has done in the past twenty or so years has been concerning headline grabbing actions or just money woes. Still, he perseveres. There are few men with as much stamina to resist the buffets of the business and still be sane, have whatever financial means to subsist and provide for a family, and keep looking and acting cool. Through all the adversity, Dame has given rise to the idea of constant reinvention. He never settles for the lower number. He aims high for that one ticket that’s always going to provide him with the best options possible.
