A promise is a promise,until it’s borken….

It all started on July 19, 2021. Kanye and his team were in Vegas at a private listening party. It was abruptly announced throughout social media by an amateur Instagram pundit like Justin Laboy among others, who were invited to listen in on the work of an album that was almost released around the same time last year.

The ironic thing about this listening event particularly was no cell phones or other devices were allowed but they haven’t stopped attendees from secretly filming some footage of new songs that were being played that night. A tweet from Instagram pundit \Justin LaBoy would’ve convinced you that Kanye‘s new body of work that he heard during the Las Vegas listening party was another classic album in the making.

Blogs and other media outlets alike started tweeting and covering stories regarding the new album that was about to drop as well as Kanye’s official label DEF Jam records, promising a release of his newly acclaimed album Donda on July 23. Another listening event at the Mercedes-Benz Staduim in Atlanta Georgia was to be held the following week following a Dr. Dre beats commercial during game six of the NBA playoffs that featured one of his songs from the anticipated album.

The 2016 Life Of Pablo was unfinished during release

Whenever Kanye rolls out a new album project to the world, we’re promise a certain release date and also a full body of work. Everyone gets excited, Black Twitter starts tweeting various speculations regarding features and songs that will be doctored on his new album and of course, momentous expectations of an official album release date with a body of work. Of course, this isn’t always the case with Kanye at all. There’s been several times in the past where Kanye would work on an album only to not release it based on certain criteria that did not satisfy him or the perfectionist in him.

When we go back as far as 2015, when Kanye was to release his now acclaimed album The Life Of Pablo, several album titles were swinged by the public. First, the album was going to be name So Help Me God, then SWISH weeks later, Waves was chosen then disputed by Wiz Khalifa( which a Twitter beef issued thereafter)and then finally after much debate, what most fans and the world today know today as TLOP. After various name title changes for the album, during February 2016, Mr. West and his team (along with Tidal)set up a YEEZY fashion show/album release listening party at Madison Square Garden. What fans in the world heard that day wasn’t the complete version of The Life of Pablo but rather an unfinished piece of work that had a lot of edges and bumps to file off.

Three days later, the life of Pablo was finally released exclusively on Tidal, Jay Z’s. Music Streaming service. Although the project wasn’t completed, Kanye made a running gimmick and excuse that TLOP was “a living breathing album “where there were constant changes to each song every week you heard it. So even as the album was released at the time, it was unfinished and was still being worked on prior to its release date and being available to stream everywhere. As soon as I heard the reasoning behind TLOP Sounding unfinished, it started to occur to me that this man just doesn’t like being rushed when it comes to producing music.

After listening to TLOP a few weeks later, I’ve noticed a couple subtle changes to a few of the selected songs listed on the album. And it seem to have gotten better with more enriched 808 beats, and drums that presented crisper percussions on Tempos and spider effects tingling through out Trap based beats throughout its updated production.Sure, it was a much more completed touch to his ever evolving album and yet It still didn’t make me love this guy’s music any better. It actually made me more impatient and unsure about any future releases from then on out.

Yhandi was shelved and NEVER released

During Kanye now infamous Trump Red MAGA Phase era, a new album called Yhandi was to be released on August 2018 and they were even a few social media promos ,an SNL Appearence With Lil Pump and a Red Cap Ye pledging his political stance to Trump, Billboards around LA and videos hyping the album anticipation. Yet again, fans were left disappointed when the album was pushed back to November. Then November came and still the album was delayed then finally scrapped in favor for a new project once Kanye vowed to stop making secular music in 2019.

Ironically, there were several leaks of Yhandi on YouTube thereafter around the same time that Kanye dropped Jesus Is King. Several of his fans and most harsh of critics listened to a scrapped album on YouTube and compared it to the commercially acclaimed Christian album.Most were disappointed by the quality of the music and thought it was more like a Kidz Bop version of what would’ve been the scrap album that just over a year ago was heavily promoted on social media and on SNL.In fact, this could be a great example on how Kanye constantly changes his body at work instantaneously as a perfectionist when his fans and critics enjoyed the original ideas from the original concept of his work in the first place. Perhaps some of his more updated ideas aren’t always better when enhanced through his perspective.There were several mixed reviews on his mundane gospel album while his real hard-core fans favored Yhandi based on its superior production and features, of course, his scrapped work wasn’t finished in terms of missing verses or uncompleted features.

Don’t Hold Your Breath With Donda

There was again in my living room at 8 PM on July 22, 2021. Yet again another album from Kanye was about to drop before his listening party at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta Georgia. Apple Music did a live stream on their streaming app for millions to view. The first hour was keeping people anxious and perplexed on what was in store. Was what was played in Las Vegas a week earlier going to be presented in Atlanta for this listening party? And yet still,the debate of what features will be placed on this version of his newly anticipated album DONDA?

An hour went by without Kanye present at all. Crowds grew impatient and uncertain on what was going on. Real fans knew, that Kanye always seems late to his events even dating back to other listening party events like his 7 track EP Kids See Ghost and his other EP in 2018 entitled YE.

But this time is surely to be different, right? It has to be when DEF Jam announces the release date for Ye’s newly titled album Donda. It has to be official when several new sources and outlets claim that Donda will be released on Friday, 23 July. And let’s not forget the beats commercial that premiere during game six of the NBA playoffs that featured a snippet of one of Kanye’s new song off othe the yet released album.

YE Lied To Us…Again

The rollout seemed seemed legitimate as fans were excited and eager to hear some new material from one of the most “important artists of our generation”. And then an hour later at 9:40 PM, the lights dimmed well we see a guy wearing a red puffer gap jacket with pants, some Yeezy‘s and a nylon facemask walking aimely around the stadium floor, alone as a few of his songs from the new album played.The music seemed a bit unfinished and wasn’t anything like the tracks that Justin Laboy and others praised during the Las Vegas listening event from but still good to the general public’s ears. The event was behind schedule as everything was supposed to start around 8 PM but start an hour later and still ended around 10:30 PM. There after, the stream was over. Millions of fans were refreshing their Spotify and Apple  Music pages and Apps during midnight in anticipation for the new Donda album to be released until,it wasn’t. Yet again!

Fans vented their frustration on Twitter an hour later asking when will Donda be dropped. One hour turned to seven hours until Justin Laboy announced that Mike Dean, the guy who mixes a masters Kanye‘s albums, was going to pull it all nighter to finish the album till it was completed. Fans begin to cool off as they patiently waited throughout Saturday for the album to drop yet again based on faulty promises from an amateur Instagram pundit. 11:50 PM came on Saturday as Justin LaBoy announced on Twitter that the album would indeed be dropped…..on August the 6. The announcement angered several fans and even made me pissed off. For the last 48 hours, fan were anticipating on an album to finally listen to only to be let down like during the Yhandi era 3 years prior.Another two weeks until a masterpiece like Donda would drop.

Kanye is LIVING at the Mercedes Benz arena?

But apparently, Kanye and his team are living in Mercedes-Benz arena and have even rented a dedicated spot within the compound dedicated to work on the album until it’s finally mixed and mastered to his liking. A soccer event was recently held at the arena on Saturday two days after the album listening party held at the same venue. My hope is that the album will be done sooner than August 6 (2021)but in a alternative universe in which we live in where an Instagram pundit is in credible source for all things Kanye album related, I can’t be too sure. Plus with Kanye’s track record, you can expect the album to either be released at a later date or pushed back for another two years with completely new album title and concept. You can never tell with this guy,and the next time Kanye promises us an album, have low expectations that it’ll drop on the next promise release date. There’s plenty of other artist you can jam out to who actually realest their material on time and doesn’t break broken promises to their fans. Go listen to them in the meantime. IF you’re not particularly a fan of Ye, well you have absolutely nothing to worry about,you can live happily without constantly worrying on rather a new album from him will drop tomorrow or in 2 more years.

At this point, Kanye is reminiscent of a modern day of Phantom Of The Opera as he roams around the stadium with his nylon full face mask, working vigorously on his new body of work.Living at Mecedes’ Benz Staduim and occasionally among spectators of other visits or staff. There might be other listening party events in other world class cities leading up to the highly anticipated release of his tenth studio album, but that has yet to remain seen as on the time of this article. If new listneing events are planned between now and the actual release of Kanye’s album, you’ll see an updated segment listed on this article.

Anyone who is a hard-core Ye fan could tell you just how frustrating but rewarding it is whenever his album is indeed dropped for the world here. I’m not saying it’s easy being a Yeezus fan but whenever he has something new for us to hear, we can’t help but to anticipate the ever approaching Yeezy season.
