When Chester Bennington, the frontman for Linkin Park, died on July 20, 2017, it left a hole in the music industry. Two weeks later, the tributes are still coming in — most recently from Coldplay's Chris Martin.
At a concert on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, #ChrisMartin performed a touching cover of “Crawling” to show his respect and love for the late artist. The haunting lyrics reached out to the rapt audience. Watch the beautiful performance below:
Before beginning the cover of #LinkinPark's song, Martin addressed the audience, letting them know it was for anyone who was missing someone:
“From time to time, we like to do a cover song. We’re gonna do one right now – I hope it’s OK. It may not sound that great, but it’s meant in good faith. This is for anybody who’s missing somebody, and this is for our whole community of musicians.”
Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda expressed his gratitude to #Coldplay on Instagram, telling Martin that the cover was beautiful.
