Chloe & Halle: the Youngest R&B Duos
They are the sisters from Georgia in a R&B duo.
They are sisters from Mableton, Georgia. The Oldest, Chlöe Bailey and The Youngest, Halle Bailey. They are not twins (so I thought) They are just sisters started off in acting, then writing their own songs, learning to play instruments through watching YouTube tutorials, singing covers on YouTube, and singing in local until they were signed to a major record label making them the most phenomenal youngest Grammy nominated R&B duos.
This is the story of Chlöe and Halle
Early Life
Chloe Elizabeth Bailey was born on July 1, 1998 and Halle Lynn Bailey was born on March 27, 2000 at Mableton, Georgia. But Chloe and Halle are not the only sibling. They both have an eldest sister named Ski Bailey, a lifestyle vlogger and a younger brother named Branson Bailey. They’re parents: Courtney Bailey, a recruitment officer and Doug Bailey, former stockbroker and Chloe and Halles manager.
While they were in Georgia, Chloe started her acting career at a young age in minor roles The Fighting Temptations, Meet the Browns and the two (Chloe and Halle) would appear on Last Holiday. Their dad Doug began teaching them how to write songs at the ages of ten and eight. The two would learn how to play instruments by watching YouTube tutorials.
Young YouTube Starlets
After their father taught them to write music and learning to play music, The Bailey Sisters started their YouTube channel when Chloe was 13 and Halle, 11, with a cover of Beyoncé's "Best Thing I Never Had" they named their channel and duo:
“Chloe x Halle”
The “x” was used as an and instead of using the word “and” the “ &”. The duo would continue to upload more covers and gained a lot of views. The duo made their appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show in 2012. After that, the duo and her family moved to Los Angeles,California to start their music career.
The duo would compete on Radio Disney’s N.B.T (Next Big Thing) fifth season and was declared winners in 2012.
After N.B.T, they made a cameo appearance in the Disney series Austin & Ally performing the song "Unstoppable" in September 2013. After gaining prominence with their YouTube videos and Disney projects, the duo independently released a four-track project titled Uncovered in September 2013.
Their Big Break
2013 was the year that changed the Bailey sisters for the better. On December 2013, they uploaded their rendition of their cover of Beyonce “Pretty Hurts”
Their YouTube video cover caught the attention of Grammy winner and former Destiny’s Child Beyonce. Beyonce would upload their cover of them singing her song on her website. She was so impressed with them and would sign them with her label Parkwood Entertainment.
In 2016, the duo starred in Beyonce short musical film Lemonade alongside Zendaya, Quvenzhane Wallis, Winnie Harlow, Serena Williams, Amandla Stenberg and various cast of the film.
Fun Fact: This isn’t the first time Chloë and Halle worked with Zendaya. The Bailey Sisters and Zendaya worked on a charitable song called “This is for my Girls” alongside with Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monae, Kelly Clarkson, Lea Michele, and Missy Elliott.
After the film, the duo would open for Beyoncé’s Formation World Tour that same year. The duo would continue to perform as opening acts for Andra Day In 2016 and Beyonce for the second time in 2018 alongside her husband Jay-Z.
The Kids are Alright
After they were signed to Parkwood, the duo worked on their debut album. The Kids are Alright was released on March 23, 2018. The album received positive reviews and debut on number 4 on the charts. Immediately following the release of the album, the duo released a short film on YouTube named after the album. The film highlights six songs from the album, and features a guest appearance by Ashton Sanders. The film was directed by Cara Stricker, and written and creative directed by Kwasi Fordjour. The album received two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album, which would be later named “Best Progressive R&B Album” in 2020. While they were working on their debut album, the duo starred on Freeform tv show Grown-ish alongside Yara Shadhidi and Trevor Jackson. The duo would play as twin sisters: Jazz and Sky.
Their song “Grown” would appear as the show’s theme song.
Ungodly Hour
In June 2020, Chloe and Halle released their second album Ungodly Hour. The album received widespread critical acclaim. The album debuted at number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart with 24,000 copies despite that the album was released during the time after Covid-19 pandemic took over and the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement took over as well.
The album would garner three Grammy nominations for Best R&B Song, Best Progressive R&B Album, and Best Traditional R&B Performance. The Chrome edition was released one year later featuring two new songs that wasn’t featured on the album the day that it was released.
Solos
After their second album, Chloe and Halle have been busy working on their own music individually. Chloe took this time showing off her sexy side instead of her sweet and cute side. Her cover version of Nina Simone “Feeling Good” was giving a lot fans attention.
Chloe released her first debut single “Have Mercy”. The song and her first music video without her sister Halle was met with critical acclaim from fans and critics.
However, fans begin to take noticed that Chloe Bailey is trying to be like Beyoncé though Chloe denies the comparison. As for Halle, she has been seen on social media cooking up her next single and has been singing cover songs.
Breakups?
Fans were concerned that Chloe and Halle have splitting up since they both have their own individual social media accounts and have been focusing on their solo projects. But no. They’re not splitting up. After Chloë and Halle launch their own social media accounts, Halle took to Instagram and said:
“Obviously, we are in two separate places right now.No matter the distance, we're still together."
Now, in their 20s, they are working on their own solos. Chloe is working on her solo debut album Surprise after she released two singles “Have Mercy” and “Treat Me”.
And, Halle is working on her solo debut album as well and working on Disney’s live action The Little Mermaid becoming the first black Disney’s live action princess. But regardless of everything they are still sisters and maybe hopefully they make a third album soon.
Who knows?
Maybe one day I’ll work for them 😉😉😉
