First off.... Who The F**K is Blaire?!

The ever-so-controversial Instagram creator Blaire Rex returns to music after a long hiatus.

Dripping in leather and indigo, Blaire prepares to drop tracks that will resonate with the masses. Why? Well, quite frankly, who hasn't hit rock bottom or been in a funk during lockdown and COVID restrictions? Her blunt lyricism covers topics from feelings of isolation and depression to the anxiety of re-emerging into the "real world".

History Lesson: Blaire's Roots

Enigmatic as she may seem, Blaire Rex has deep roots in the Rock & Metal music scene. Her contributions go as far back as the early 2000s while working with noteworthy acts like Velvet Revolver (yes, THAT Velvet Revolver, with Slash & Scott Weiland), Camp Freddy, and The Panic Channel (feat. members of Jane's Addiction).

After fronting several Alternative Rock groups in New York City in the 2o00s, Blaire is no stranger to the stage. Her outlandish and often extremely dramatic demeanor captivates even the "fly on the wall" in the back of the bar. Engaging the crowd in live shows was a hallmark trait of Blaire in acts like The Whoremoans & various acts during her formative years. As a student at a Manhattan performing arts school, Blaire refined her craft and developed her style as a performer.

Blaire is no newbie on the scene. A rock scene veteran who's made their foray into creating after nearly two decades of promoting granted me the privelege of giving her latest project a listen before its official release.

For Fans Of...

To put Blaire's music into one genre is akin to photographing a sunset. Yes, a snapshot will give you a basic idea of what you can expect. However, if you wish to capture the full spectrum and depth, you'll need to experience it for yourself. Fans of artists ranging from Nine Inch Nails, Halsey, Ariana Grande, Boards of Canada and Fiona Apple will all find familiar footing in her interpretation of our post-pandemic reality.

At times somber, her music will put you in touch with the darkness that resides within us all. When least expected, soaring melodies will uplift you and create an environment for healing, solace, and peace. Beautifully tragic cacophonies will leave you reconsidering your own reality. While lyricism is Blaire's strong suit, the freewheeling vocal harmonies laid over dense synth lines bring to light the beauty of a voice repressed by the numerous topics covered in the subject matter of her 2 new tracks.

The liberated vocals and overwhelmingly powerful, chest-forward vocal style will take center stage at first listen. Upon further spins, these tracks reveal more depth in the form of raw, visceral pain translated to beauty. A self-proclaimed walking contradiction seamlessly blends hardship and gratitude in her poetic rebuttal to life itself.

An Auditory Avalanche

Blaire has clearly taken close notes from her predecessors and influencers in creating overwhelming choruses that absorb your entire existence, then leave you stripped and barren to reconsider everything you knew before. Pensive lyricism, soul-bearing brutal honesty, and crystal clear vocal harmonies drive the point home.

The upcoming EP's title still has yet to be revealed, but the lyrical content and mood are meant to revive memories of lockdown and emerging into the world after a period of isolation. The tracks, according to the artist, are telling the story of the highs and lows experienced by so many during the unstable and often anxiety-inducing time of 2020 and beyond. The message will surely resonate with many.

Pain masked as prettiness seems to be Blaire's signature brand. A blend left behind by great female-fronted acts like Hole, Fiona, and Tori Amos is revived by vintage-tinged, angst-fueled, and passionate vocal chops.

While her aesthetic is doomy and dark, the future is bright for Blaire Rex. Fans of the darker side of pop and electronic music will surely find something to love in her latest work.
