Hey Karen feat. Image, What Can I say?

This song is basically inspired by whats going on now. I wanted to shed light on certain situations and this topic was my way of being serious with what the internet has picked up on. I’ve seen viral videos from a variety of locations, state to state. Where individuals are seen harrassing people for no apparent reason. These individuals coined as Karen, a nick name popularized on social media has been causing a scene and this song exploits those behaviors.

The funny thing about viral videos is everyone gets to see whats going on and of course the internet never fails. I mean there's a whole Instagram page dedicated to Karens, showcasing exactly their actions in a day to day scenario.

What turned out to be a joke at first, ended up being a valuable song. Hey Karen actually touches on topics we all must discuss. No one should be harassed simply by the color of our skin. No one should call the cops on someone for invalid reasons.

The process of writing this song was actually fun doing because as I was watching these videos of Karens and Kens going wild. I started to think, I should write a letter format written song, similar to Stan by Eminem. In Stan, the writer is writing directly to his idol but in Hey Karen, were writing directly to all the Karens in the world.

With social injustice and protests happening, Karens are adding salt to wounds. People want change, people want peace and more importantly people want their rights. Freedom of speech especially. Everyone should be able to express them selves accordingly and not be harassed for it or even reported to authorities unlawfully.

“We suppose to be sisters and brothers, not undercover reporters bringing harm to one another”

Image, He’s a Dope singer songwriter from California. He definitely brought more feeling to the record. Actually this is an interesting way I came about this feature.

I have a group chat going with a diverse set of artists from all parts of the world. Image, one day jumped in and wanted to discuss these current events. Now of course, these topics can always be awkward for some but I knew he had a lot on his mind.

He wanted to know what everyone else was thinking about the situation and felt we should all have these conversations. I found this to be true, I know there's people hurting and I can feel it almost immediately. So Hey Karen was born.

I started gathering my thoughts and pieced phrases together. I thought it would be fun to put Karen on the spot by starting the chorus with “Hey Karen I know Your busy”. I wanted her to be aware of what shes actually doing while shes doing it. This song is my interruption in the sense of your going to listen to me now.

As I started to write, No-one else came to mind when I thought about having someone come in and enhance this record.

“When CAL. told me he wanted to make a record about what’s going on currently in the world with injustice and discrimination. I immediately was on board, it was the perfect opportunity to get our message across in a beautiful way. I think we nailed it and hopefully these Karen’s understand we are all human and we have to move with love and not fear.”
