Before Beyonce's Renaissance took over the US charts, Destiny's Child's member and Grammy Winner Kelly Rowland made dance songs like David Guetta's "Love Takes Over" and "Commander" made the European top charts but left the US charts under the radar. With Beyonce's Act I Renaissance made the top Billboard Dance charts and earned Grammy wins. This article's story breaks down how Kelly Rowland took over dance music before Beyonce.

If you would like to take a look at my Album Review of Act I Renaissance.......

After Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland wanted to venture off her solo career. Rowland debuts her first album Simply Deep on October 22, 2002. Her debut album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and sold over 3 million copies worldwide. Her first single "Dilemma" featuring rapper Nelly made number one on the hit charts as well as hit singles like "Stole" and "Can't Nobody". In the US charts, it peaked at #12 on the US Billboard 200, becoming Rowland's lowest-charting album to date, selling 77,000 copies in its first week.

However, Dilemma earned Rowland her first solo Grammy win. In late 2003, nearly a year after the album's initial release, Rowland embarked on her debut solo Simply Deeper Tour to promote the album in Europe. It started in the United Kingdom on September 13, 2003, and concluded on October 6, 2003, in Paris, France, its 17th venue. While Rowland was embarking on her tour, her bandmates Michelle Williams was debuting her first gospel album and Beyonce was filming Austin Powers in Goldmember and working on her debut which made her a huge star earning five Grammys. In 2006, four years after her debut album and Destiny's Child disbandment, she released her second album, Ms. Kelly on June 20, 2007.

Ms. Kelly (2007)

Her singles "Like This" (my favorite song) and "Work" were hits as well. The album received positive reviews from most music critics and achieved reasonable commercial success, debuting at number six on the US Billboard 200 and at number two on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, selling 86,000 copies in its first week.

After Ms. Kelly, Rowland ended her with Mattwho has managed Destiny's Child and the father of Beyonce Knowles, and left Columbia Records since Ms. Kelly hasn't made much success. Even though she hasn't made success in the US, she made success in the European charts. Her songs from her two albums have been remixed by other DJs like DJ Speedy, Joey Negro, Karmatronic, Steve Pitron & Max Sanna. In 2009, Rowland collaborated with David Guetta's single "When Love Takes Over", which topped many charts in Europe, selling over 5.5 million copies worldwide. Guetta earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.

In 2010, she collaborates with David again for the hit dance single "Commander" which appear for her third album Here I Am. Here I Am was released on July 26, 2011. Her next single "Motivation" featuring Lil Wayne was a hit and topped the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for seven consecutive weeks and was certified double platinum. "Motivation" won Song of the Year at the 2011 Soul Train Music Awards and Top R&B Song at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Here I Am debuted at number one on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number three on the US Billboard 200 albums chart, selling 147,000 copies making it Rowland highest chart topping album.

In April 2011, Rowland appeared on Italian DJ Alex Gaudino's single "What a Feeling", which became another UK top-ten hit.

Her fourth studio album, Talk a Good Game was released on 2013. The album flopped and debuted number four on the charts. In 2014, Rowland parted ways with her label, wanting a new start elsewhere and signalling the end of the Talk a Good Game era.

Even though, Kelly didn't receive much success in the US charts she did making her an international R&B pop artist. The most agitating thing about her career is when journalist, papperazzis, and other media interviewing Rowland expressing interest in the Beyonce comparsion making it look like Rowland "jealous" of Beyonce's career and not much of her music. Regardless of the comparison, I am gonna still root for Kelly and we will still root for Kelly.
