"This is real inside life."

2020 has been a year like no other and if there is one thing that 2020 has shown us, it’s that regardless of job, stardom, or perceived success, we’re all in this world together and when something like a pandemic hits, it affects us all – every job, every industry, every one.

While a lot of industries are beginning to kick back and once again spring into action, one major industry that for so long had been such a money-making machine, the entertainment industry, was so greatly affected and is still struggling to bounce back.

As you can imagine, people who work in this industry – stars and background alike have felt the impact very hard and today I’ll be counting down 5 Nigerian Celebrities Who Lost So Much Money This Year.

1. Seyi Shay

Nigerian singer Seyi Shay is one artiste who got hit by 2020 very hard. The outspoken singer not only got her account hacked this year, but also because of the lack of shows and work, her money was also greatly affected. Seyi took to social media to talk about how hard the year has been for her writing:

I don’t even wanna talk about how much money I’ve lost cos of this global lockdown! Shows, endorsements, deals!!!! I pray The Almighty restores EVERYTHING that my fellow artistes and YOU have lost ! #weshallovercome.

Noone wants to talk about it, but me i go talk am ooo! This is real inside life. This sucks!! Plenty work and gigs locally and internationally CANCELLED! God when #weshallovercome ko ni da fun coronavirus (it will not be good for Coronavirus)!

2. Asa

Everybody who follows the music industry knows that Asa is one of the most prolific and well-respected artistes in Nigeria. A big part of this is because unlike other artistes, Asa doesn’t necessarily make commercial music and promote them unto the mainstream – instead she sticks to her loyal and devoted fans making most of her money in music through hosting and playing in her very exclusive shows.

This year, Asa had to cancel multiple concerts that were slated to rake in big cash for her. She had shows scheduled in London, Lagos, Abuja, and more cities all over the world but unfortunately has had to reschedule and cancel a lot of these shows because of the lockdown.

3. 2Baba

Just like Asa, Nigerian veteran singer 2Baba was supposed to hold a HUGE concert in Cameroun which was expected to rake in a whole lot of money for the singer. However, because of the pandemic, the prolific Nigerian singer had to cancel the show and now the singer with over 5 million followers on Instagram who could normally pull in thousands of people when he announced a show is only managing to attract about 2,000 viewers to his Instagram Live concert. A far cry from what we would have seen in Cameroun.

4. YCee

Nigerian singer YCee has made it no secret that this year for him has been quite the struggle for him financially. The singer consistently talks about how he needs money during these times, and even recorded a song about it titled “Money I Dey Find”.

5. Davido

Finally, OBO himself Davido who is of course not going to be asking for money from any of us anytime soon still felt the effects of this year on his bank account.

The sensational singer who had to postpone his “A Good Time” concert – a concert that was supposed to be huge for him and travel all around North America – disclosed just how hard the situation was even affecting him.

When a fan asked him to do a giveaway, the Nigerian singer responded:

no money for now … no show in sight abeg … we all Dey here together.

I can’t even imagine the excitement that will flood these artistes hearts when we are finally able to return to concerts and they’re once again able to make a good living off of their music and playing shows.

That’s All.
