21 Bridges.

Directed by Brian Kirk, "21 Bridges" is an action thriller that you may or may not like. Geared more toward the younger audience, this movie does have some twists and turns; but is never great.

Actor Chadwick Boseman as Andre Davis is never strong enough to carry this role and as such, the movie gets hurt here. Boseman is overshadowed by the strength of Oscar winner J.K. Simmons as Captain Matt.... He is also equally matched by a well seasoned Sienna Miller as Frankie Burns.

The story of "21 Bridges" has been told many times... crooked cops looking to set up a nest egg for themselves; thinking that they are business people on the public's dime. When the street criminals cross the police, it is the "legal criminals" vs the street thugs.

With a very diverse cast, "21 Bridges" can't get out of it's own way. In Vonetta Davis ( Sarah Ellen Stephens), we never get a sense at what nor who she is, what her goal is here. The same can be said for the acting chops of Jayson Ward Williams and others. Blame the direction or blame the actors who are not really seasoned but this movie is fair at best.

The writing never gets the street life into play. Sure we see some people living their lives in New York City, however, it never resonates because the writing is never strong. This makes the movie tailspin into what will be an average movie.

I watched this movie during the Covid lock-down and was hoping then that I would have liked it. The truth is that I was disappointed in it. The movie lacked gumption and soul. The fact that gangsters were on the lose and all the bridges and tunnels were to be shut down was no great deal. If the chase, the plot was better than sure, the movie would have been something more interesting but that was not the case here.

In the end, "21 Bridges" was not worth the time. Like Matt Ross and Angelo Bocca, the movie was a POS. Skip this one as it is not worth the time. Like I said from the outset, it may interest the younger crowd. The reason I say that is the street creeds of this movie. It has some street scenes, albeit, not great.

In the mysterious Mr. Lagerfeld, a 2023 movie, we get to see the great designer at work. Lagerfeld had a great eye when it came to fashion. The documentary depicts the many sides of Lagerfeld. He was a bit corky, a bit genius and a lot of fashion talent. Lagerfeld competed against the likes of St. Laurent, De La Renta, Halston, Dior and many more. Lagerfeld would stand out more than any other as cutting edge.

In the documentary we get Lagerfeld as a young man, what moved him, what inspired him to create. His vision was always different than most and the documentary really brings this out. He would end up running the House of Chanel at the end of his career. It was a fitting end to run the most famous fashion house in the world as it locked in his great legacy.

This fashion documentary is worth watching. It brings into focus just how great Karl Lagerfeld was and why his legacy will never die as a top notch designer. He was more talented as a woman's designer, but he was still very effective as a men's designer.
