1. Contrary to popular belief, his eyes were not two different colors. The discoloration that was seen is called Anisocoria, which means that he had a permanently dilated pupil that occurred after he got in a fight with his friend, George, over a girl.

2. He and Elvis Presley shared the same birthday, January 8th. If they had both been alive today, Elvis would have been 12 years older than Bowie!

3."Space Oddity" was timed perfectly, as it was actually released 9 days before Apollo 11 landed on the moon!

4. He loved to read! He often read a book a day!

5. He was a HUGE fan of the band Placebo, and Oasis before they split up.

6. " Major Tom," a fictional character of his, actually appeared in 3 of his songs: "Space Oddity" (1969)," Ashes to Ashes" (1980), and "Hallo Spaceboy" (1996).

7. John Lennon co-wrote "Fame," and sung the back-up vocals for it. It ended up becoming Bowie's first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100.

8. Being "Ziggy Stardust" made him think he was losing his mind! He retired the persona in 1973 at a concert, and said in an interview that Ziggy "Wouldn't leave me alone for years. That was when it all started to go sour... My whole personality was affected. It became very dangerous. I really did have doubts about my sanity."

9. In 1974, at the height of his addiction to cocaine he weighed a whopping 95 lbs., and lived on a diet of milk, peppers, and cocaine.

10. As a way to gain more publicity for arachnids, scientists decided to name some species after celebrities. This species name honors David Bowie because the spider's face has a resemblance to the his painted face in his early career. It is called the Heteropoda Davidbowie.

11. Toni Basil, best known for her hit song, "Mickey," choreographed his Diamond Dogs Tour (1974), and his Glass Spider Tour (1987).

12. He not only plays Jareth in his movie Labyrinth, but he also does the gurgling sounds of the baby during the song "Dance Magic Dance."

13. Bowie never performed "Under Pressure" for a live audience until he did the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert with Annie Lennox, and the surviving members of Queen.

14. Bowie made a cameo on a Spongebob Squarepants episode where he voiced Lord Royal Highness, who just so happened to have one blue eye and a dilated pupil just like Bowie!

15. He claimed to have had a "horrible accident" with tea when he was 5 and refused to drink it.

16. He was nominated for an MTV award for his cameo appearance in Zoolander.

17. Supposedly, David Bowie was next on Mark David Chapman's Hit List. He was the man who killed John Lennon.

18. Guns N' Roses guitarist, Slash, once stated that he caught Bowie and his mother being intimate. She was his costume designer at the time!

19. He was voted as best dressed Briton in 2013. He changed his style many times. He donned everything from suits to custom made couture dresses, just because he could. Britons recognized Bowie’s commitment to constant reinvention and voted for him, making him win 50% of the poll. He even passed Queen Alexandra and Beau Brummel AKA the man who INVENTED the suit!

20. Bowie was hit in the eye socket by a lollipop thrown by a fan while performing on stage in Norway in 2004.

The sucker became physically lodged in Bowie’s bad pupil and it had to be forcefully ripped out by a stagehand. An annoyed Bowie chastised the crowd before regaining his composure and joking about how lucky it was that it had hit his bad eye. He then told the crowd he’d punish them by playing an extra long set, which featured him playing the song “The Laughing Gnome” eight times. REBEL REBEL indeed!
