For most of my life when I read the word ‘Healing,’ it was followed by a first aid kit. Packed with band-aids and alcohol wipes. Somehow I was supposed to use these things to seal in these wounds scattered around my body like birthmarks; scattered around my mind like stars. This is where things got complicated because I never actually saw blood and sometimes there were no scars.
At one point we were all wearing diapers, still figuring out how to train our tongue to wrap around the word "mommy," and "daddy." At one point we were being coddled and we didn't understand what boundaries were. At one point we all blinked for too long and by the time we opened our eyes again we were pushed out into the real world (whatever that means) with sensitive bodies, overwhelmed minds, and plates filled with responsibilities and expectations. We're not babies anymore.
