The sunlight outside casted a comforting warmth within the interior of the living room, where Alicia and her little brother sat. The two of them were on a couch, gazing intently at the tv in front of them, watching a show. “I told you,” Adam exclaimed, joyfully, “The bad man always loses.”

6. Killing Fields
Chapter 6 “Amal wake up,” a girl yelled, her hands clutching at his shoulders, “It’s time.” Instinctively, Amal sprung up and overtook her into a chokehold, where a knife, appearing out of nowhere, was aimed at her throat. “Wai- stop it’s me, Jasmine,” Jasmine cried, her eyes wide with terror, coughing. Amal dropped his knife, leaving it on a nightstand, and freed Jasmine from the chokehold. “Wrong way to wake someone up Jas,” Amal said, standing up.

Chapter 4 Alicia gasped, as she regained consciousness on the floor. A janitor, several metres away, watching her, as she wiped his mop over the floors. What the hell was that, she thought. Breathing heavily, Alicia grimaced as she rose up. "Are you alright, dear?" The janitor said, cautiously stepping towards her. "I'm fine, sorry," Alicia muttered. "Just a little tired". The janitor nodded slowly, concerned. Alicia flashed a sheepish smile, hesitant, as she dashed away. Away to her class.

Soaring through the Skies
The forest was lit with fireflies and the gleaming moon, as Morgan fled through the narrow, dirt-ridden path that snaked its way through the woods. Blood soaked through the front of his white, buttoned-up shirt, as he raced through the darkness of the night. Endless trails of sweat travelled their way down his face, as he managed to keep his eyes ripped open. I cannot stop, he thought, desperately searching for a sign.

Chapter 5 It was in the dead of night; pitch-black darkness surrounded Amal. He suddenly found himself standing upright, wearing all black. Every step he took in this strange world, echoed all around him, and rang through his ears. He gritted his teeth and willed himself to wake. It wouldn’t work. His eyes, the ones he can pinpoint targets from miles away, are blinded and shut from the blackness that stands before him. His own personal void.

3. The Boy
Chapter 3 Thousands of miles away, smoke and dust passed through a rural village. A dirt-ridden sign, Rembaka, dangled from a wooden pole that held it up several metres high, tied with several pieces of rope. It looked worn and damaged, unmaintained. Rows of huts and mud houses, held together by pieces of wood and string and mud, swayed against the storms of dust, behind the sign. Sand dunes and valleys of nothingness surrounded the village and seemed to stretch on for miles.

1. In The Dark
Act 1: Blossoming Fires Chapter 1 The darkness crept into the streets, as a young woman stood at a bus stop, waiting. Her fingers trembled, as she rubbed her arms anxiously. Her short frizzy hair covered her face, winds blowing from every side. Shivering, Alicia gripped her thick jacket together, pressing her already dry and cold hands together against her body. The streets were empty, which left the woman alone and distressed. In her current state, sickly and paranoid, Alicia had seen, what appeared to be, smoky bodies drifting into the sky, obscuring the twinkling stars from above. The bench she’d been sitting on for hours, might as well been ice. Though she was covered heavily from head to toe, the chills of the depressing voids of the night struck deeply into her body, clashing with the mysteriousness of the streets.
