Loss & Regret
Do you ever look back on moments of your life, typically before it took a downward turn, and questioned whether your memories reflected reality? It’s easy to maintain this idyllic picture in your mind, as if what came before was sitting on the edge of perfection, before it was ripped away from you.

The Sweetest Darling Loves
My Sweetest Love, The days have been long since you left. The yellows and greens of the fields don’t seem as bright, and the waves sparkle a little less. I watch the horizon every morning from my attic window, just high enough to see a glimpse of the shimmering water in the bay and pray for your safe return.

If You Want a Taste of Real UK Comedy
I’m not going to discredit the likes of Downton Abbey, Bridgerton or The Crown, but I hope everyone isn’t naïve enough to assume that’s a fair reflection of what life is really about over here in the UK. I wanted to give a list of TV shows that not just show something a bit closer to reality, but also programmes that we intrinsically know and love.

If You've Ever Wondered 'Where Did They Come From?'
Let’s wind it back to the late-80’s/early-90s. Trump was just a property tycoon, the name Kardashian was only associated with OJ, and no one had heard of Brexit (all of us Brits long for that to still be the case). A simpler time, some may say. Be that as it may, it was also a time for cult-classic movies that will warm your heart and make you debate asking for a bouffant hair style next time you’re with a stylist.

An Invisible Illness
Epilepsy is brutal in its own way. It’s invisible, for a start. Secondly, it’s physically overwhelming and beyond my control. Sometimes I put myself in risky situations, like getting too hot in the sun or not sleeping (or even being in a situation that unexpectedly has flashing lights when I didn’t expect them), but sometimes it comes from nowhere. You can feel fine one moment, walking carelessly with your friends, and the next second you’re waking up in A&E without the foggiest knowledge of who you are.

Faux Aficionados
The lights were pulsating with increasing intensity and the floor was shaking from the bass. You could almost feel the sweaty condensation ready to drip down the walls. The air was close with the heat radiating from the moving bodies drunkenly sauntering around the dance floor.

Down and Out
I can hear the slur in my voice as I try, unconvincingly, to tell her that I’m sober enough to function and I haven’t let her down. Her eyes are welling up with anger, not disappointment or upset, yet she steps aside and lets me into our flat. I say our flat, as if I’ve contributed in some way, but that would be generous to say.
