How Buffy Helps Me Process Big Emotional Themes
One thing that I learned from the mentors of my past that seems to hold very true, is that you have to feel your stuff in order to heal it. The feelings have to be present. And you have to acknowledge them and feel them in order to heal the associated wounds. Otherwise they just stay under the radar and keep coming back to kick your butt. Avoidance is really not a strategy that was ever intended to last for very long.

Rapunzel's Haircut
Rapunzel sat with her back against the cool stone wall, tapping her foot impatiently and gazing out of the window into an impossibly blue sky. She was bored. She had already eaten, but glanced over at the small kitchen anyway. What else was there to do? The witch had brought her food rations just yesterday, but she was already bored with that too. It was always the same. Only whatever food the witch chose to bring her. She had no say in what came. The blackbird had brought her a piece of chocolate biscuit once. She wished for one of those. She sighed and glanced back out the window. She wasn’t really hungry anyway.

Treasure Map for the Soul
Simon was a man without purpose. Without hope. Since the death of his wife, his grief had consumed him and he found very little capacity for anything else. Not even sleep. He was supposed to be finding a job, but didn’t really know how he was supposed to function in one, given his current state. However, to keep a roof over one’s head - to be able to live at all really - one had to have money, didn’t one? So that was a consideration. He thought more and more these days about the futility of his life, but wondered whether he could actually bring himself to end it.
