TWO CHICKS ONE BOAT
“HOUSEBOAT ADVENTURES HERE WE COME!” I yelled over the music. We were on our way to the largest swamp in America. Our conversation was light as we drove through the wetlands towards Baton Rouge. The Boat rental place is located in Jennings, Louisiana and that is pretty much all we know. Alaina flipped through the information we printed out at the hotel before we hit the road as we drove through the wetlands. She read me some of the interesting facts about the birds and other wildlife in the area that we might see while we are out there. I was starting to get a little nervous and hoping that the pictures on the website weren’t deceiving. I didn’t want anyone to back out at the last minute so I kept my doubts to myself.

WANTED: SWM
WANTED: SINGLE WHITE MALE There is the most handsome man at my new job. He sits only a few desks away from mine. His name is Kevin Huntington and has gorgeous short dark blonde hair with the eyes that are bluer than the Caribbean Sea. I am guessing his is at least 6’2” and I would lay money that he played sports all through high school and college. He reminds me of the perfect “Ken Doll” that I use to dream about when I was a little girl. He dresses like he could step up and walk a fashion run way at any moment. All the girls in the office do whatever they can to get his attention and he doesn’t even notice them. I personally think it is really pathetic seeing all the office skanks throw themselves at him. I at least have some sort of class when I am attracted to somebody. I also remember to play it cool when I am the new girl in the office. But I can tell the other women in the office already see me as competition. I got wicked looks from them when he set a cup of coffee on my desk this morning, and thanked me for helping him catch up on all of his filing. He even knew my name! I wonder if he had asked somebody who I was or if it was the stupid name tag that I had to wear my first week of training.

Three Chicks One Boat
Getting up the next day was much easier since we did not do shots all night and we all managed to get some rest instead of blacking out. Alaina was the first to get up and start cooking the last of our breakfast foods and brewing a pot of coffee. We ate, changed into our swimsuits and loaded the flat boat with some towels, sunscreen and water. We wanted to hit the water early before it got too hot and before Zeb came back for us. I didn’t think we would need to bring too much with us since I didn’t see us being out cruising the swamp too long. Starting the boat was easier than I expected. After a few pulls it jumped to life. I tried to remember what Zeb was telling us when he was talking about the boat but my mind was drawing a blank. I shrugged it off as Alaina and Kristy were getting into the boat slowly as if it was going to suddenly sink with their weight. They both relaxed slightly when they were completely seated and the boat wasn’t going down like the Titanic. Kristy untied the rope that was attached to the boat and I maneuvered the boat away from the cabin. I was surprised at how easy controlling the boat was. Within minutes we were zipping through the canals as fast as our boat would take us. Alaina was snapping photos with her camera and Kristy was videotaping our surroundings. The canals twisted and turned like a snake through the swamp. The other boats and swamp shacks we encountered along the way were sporadic. We would pause occasionally to take pictures whenever Alaina or Kristy would point to a particular area that they wanted me to move closer to. I didn’t think about how long we had been riding around until my stomach started to grumble and the engine started to sputter.

Three Chicks One Boat
“So where are we off to today Holley?” Alaina asked as she poured us each a cup of hot coffee. I pushed the plate of assorted pastries and fruit towards her as she approached the table with our mugs. It was our third day in New Orleans and I had already accumulated a stack of brochures and computer printouts on things I want to try and do on this trip. I gave her a mischievous smile and a wink as I handed her the brochure and sipped slowly from my coffee cup.

Case # 659901
Nothing made Hannah feel more alone than looking at her children’s empty bedroom. She stood frozen in the door way was if an invisible barrier was stopping her from going in. Everything was perfectly arranged and neatly organized. She grinned when she imagined her daughters seeing the bookshelf of new toys for the first time. Hannah felt like this room could be in a magazine. She was proud that she was able to save enough money to purchase the new bunk beds for them and even get matching furniture. She daydreamed about how happy her girls will be to finally come home.
