Starting off, sincerest apologies this was not published as timely as it was intended to be. However, we felt with an issue this important, it was better to get it right, than get it done. Caroline & Les would like to thank Clyde E. Dawkins for taking leadership of this issue.
"Since its official establishment in the year 2000, when it was originally coined “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month”, LQBTQ+ month has evolved to become a period of celebration, of recognition and, above all, of pride for the queer community.
Black History Month on Vocal
Black History Month: It Still Matters. America has practiced erasure... to the point of devastation. For this reason, and this reason alone, Black History Month is still important. A focused period of time when the history of black people and how we have contributed to a country that used our bodies, families, and souls to commit its original sin is needed to show people that blackness matters, that it is good, that it is capable, beautiful, intelligent, and worthy. That our history is American history, and it is important. Does this mean that discussions, lessons, ideas, art exhibitions, and projects about black history should only be delegated to February? Absolutely not. Will there be a day when Black History Month is no longer necessary? I hope so. Because that day will mean that our history is acknowledged and taught as widely and richly as America’s white history. It won’t only be a specialization or emphasis for college students, but will truly be what it has always been: an integral part of the interwoven fabric that is America. - KATHRYN H. ROSS, (author of Black Was Not a Label) Quote pulled from It Matters | Black History Month and ‘Erasure’ Blackness can't be ignored or explained away BY KATHRYN H. Vocal Creators Chronicle Vol. 8
The Vocal Creators Chronicle was founded on a love for creativity with the one ambition to celebrate fellow creators. To fulfil this ambition, we bring attention to a broad range of creators' work, carve out target audiences, and innovate to extend reach to readers. As we return from our Christmas hiatus and step into 2022, we are as adventurous as ever in chasing our dreams. Recently, we've strolled onto Twitter!
Quora, Reddit and Substack consistently beat us in the race for search engine results. No more. We're making it our mission this year to improve our ecosystem. Stick with us and we'll bring you along! Step 1: it starts with hashtags.
Digital Creation Tips Vol. 1
You can count on The Chronicle to keep you informed about tips, dos, don'ts, and other strategies for digital content creation. Gathered from Vocal Media, these articles are free to enjoy, but support their creators with "reads". So, take your time scrolling the page, and if the content spoke to you, consider passing on the article or leaving them a tip. It's a tough world out there for content creators. We're #bettertogether. To improve SEO for all, we urge you to start hashtagging. For example: #creatorsofvocal; #poetsofvocal; #chroniclecreators ; #bevocal. Let's make 2022 the year Vocal overtakes Quora ;)
Mindful Making Is What You Make of It
What Brings You Regenerative Healing In Your Life? We were tasked to define "Mindful Making" in reference to threading the needle of our lives. The challenge may be over, but we invite you to read our perspectives and try journalling your own experience.
Who Defines Authenticity?
We were tasked to define our "authentic selves". Each of us looked deep and came at the question from entirely different directions. We invite you to let your mind wander in ours a while. Then perhaps dig out your journal and see what words come to mind to define your own sense of authenticity. The challenge may be complete, but the opportunity to write for a prompt continues.
Hygge & Sleep Resolutions
"Year after year, we make resolutions that so often amount to doing things for others. We vow to start working harder or longer hours, or do things that will impress or prove our worth to our peers, like losing weight, or earning more money. But this year, after nearly two years that have been hard on us all, we’re doing things differently. Welcome to the resolution revolution, in which we’re all pledging to be kinder to ourselves by prioritizing rest." - The Vocal Media Sleep Resolution Challenge of 2022
