My First Celeb Crush
The year was 2006 and I was in middle school. My brother and I were watching the Disney channel as we would every day. A trailer came on for the hit Disney Channel original movie, High School Musical while the snow was falling outside in Albany, New York. The trailer for this mysterious film looked interesting, and I was a fan of the theater so I thought I would like it. Little did I know it would be the catalyst of awakening.

What WAP Really Means
Ever since it first premiered on VH1 I had been enthralled with the drama, the heartbreak, and the absolute, mostly unintended hilarity of the cast of Love and Hip Hop. Mona Scott Young had assembled a mix of hip hop hopefuls and has-beens to create either a jumping-off point for a comeback or a career graveyard. Someone who had taken full advantage of this platform, along with Remy Ma, is one Cardi B. The snaggletooth stripper was initially taken as a joke by fans and a good amount of her other cast members but mylanta, did she show everyone up. She is now one of the most successful alums of the show.

Staying #CharlotteStrong
The morning was normal. I woke up like usual, brushed my teeth like usual, and got dressed like usual. My routine is a boring one, and I had expected April 30th, 2019 to be just as boring. Boy, was I wrong. I don't think there's going to be another day like this for me.

Documentaries About Fyre Festival Have Been Released
Remember when Ja Rule was relevant? His deep raspy vibe flooded the radio airwaves, balancing Ashanti's high pitched voice in their hit “Always on Time.” Well, get your ears ready, because he is kinda sorta relevant once more, just not for his music this time. In late 2016, Ja Rule and Billy McFarland—the creator of a company that was already in the process of being found out as a scam called Magnises—decided to create another company. They not only made the company and announced it, but made a festival coinciding with its release. The idea of Fyre Festival was born. Billy, his employees, and some of the most influential models in the world like Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner started advertising something that they hadn't even started building. They promised jet skis, five-star catering, fancy villas, and music acts who found the idea sketchy themselves. The best part? The Fyre team only had five months to make everything they promised a reality.

Arrogance and the Destruction of Self
So this year has been crazy, am I right? Aside from all of the heavy political stuff that I absolutely refuse to get into, life itself has just been a whirlwind of crazy. I love Youtube. The platform has already changed the way people view the world and has given a voice that we never knew we had. So now we can talk about how people have used such an innovative discovery to hurt people because of their arrogance and in turn, destroyed their image.

Being an English Major
I go to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. It's big and notable alumni include a bunch of scientists and Clay Aiken....that's about it. I knew I wanted to do something with writing when I was a senior in high school, I just wasn't sure what. I saw a career counselor and they had the bright idea of combining something I love, like art, movies, and music, with writing, which is something I enjoy anyway (I'm here, ain't I?) "You could be a reviewer!" And just like that, I was sold into a world of Shakespeare, AP style guides, and abstract poetry that I have a new appreciation for. I honestly can't think of another major I would rather be studying as of now. Music majors have no time, art majors spend a fortune on supplies, theater majors have to study tech theater, which is a whole thing, and with english all you need is paper and a pen or a laptop and a book and it's just simpler.

Sororities: Cult or Culture?
It was something I had been dreaming of since I was little, especially since I only had brothers. I imagined having a close knit group of friends who were the underdogs who still came out on top in a climactic show of a well deserved victory like the Mighty Ducks, Space Jam, or any other 90s underdog story so as soon as I got the chance, I did it. I joined a sorority. No, those creepy door videos and rumors of hazing didn't faze me, oddly enough and surprisingly enough, hazing is seriously frowned upon in my organization, which gave me relief that I had one less hoop to jump through. I went through Spring recruitment which is more laid back and conversational and you get to skip the 60 dollar formal recruitment fee, which was a plus, and once the girl I spoke to talked about her dislike of children, I knew I found home.
