Heart-shaped Hedgehog
For me, the year 2020 started and went on for a while in a very difficult way, and Covid was not the only one to blame. 2020 opened with circumstances that caused me so much agony I finally built the courage to extract myself from them. While I had newfound freedom and it was the best decision, such a change still brought pain and heartache.

Blood of a Traitor
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. A restless wind moaned around the small shelter, and the outer darkness pressed hard against the cabin, crowding up to the glow of the candle as if angry it dared to break the darkness with its light.

Delightful Ice Cream
COVID-19, thank you. Because of you, I ended up spending more time with the man who would become my husband. And one of the places we enjoyed spending time together in our pre-dating days during the first summer of COVID was a fabulous little store in Austin, Texas, called D'Lites.

The Voice of Titanic
I was supposed to be unsinkable. I was so excited and ready to go! I had been eagerly anticipating my maiden voyage for months now. But now everything was ready. All things were in place. My interior was luxury itself, opulent and divine. The grand central staircase and finely chiseled clock at the center of the landing was my crowning glory. Or maybe it was my huge steamer smokestacks. Or, perhaps, the beautiful china waiting to serve my many passengers. My decks were large, my engine room primed, and my crew was a fine one. I was especially proud of my captain, Edward Smith. He boasted quite a marvelous beard and mustache. Yes, I had much to be proud of. I was unsinkable.

DISCLAIMER: History is filled with interesting stories. Many are familiar to us. Some are lost to time that we will never know. But, perhaps, other stories haven't been recorded in history as accurately as we think. Even eyewitness accounts don't always provide every detail of what happened. Some of those details are brought to light when following research down trails both strange and rarely tread. One must be careful and committed. And, one must be prepared to find out some things that can both shock and terrify.

Secret in the BarnRunner-Up in Return of the Night Owl Challenge
Beth twisted and turned all night after the strange soldier turned up at their door. She was in a glade, walking faster and faster trying to find her way out. Then she was running, and suddenly a light burst through the trees and she was standing on a flat plain. Smoke was everywhere. The roar of gunfire split her skull, pounding in her eardrums. Covering her ears, Beth ducked and ran, screaming wordlessly to drown out the cries echoing in her ears that she heard from the hospital. Then out of the chaos, a hand grabbed hers, warm and strong. She lifted her tearstained face and saw Samuel looking down at her.
