Sun effects in astrology
In Vedic astrology, the Sun is known as RAVI or SURYA. Because of his heated, dry character, he is said to be mildly maleficent. The Sun dominates the Sign of Leo, just as it does in western tropical astrology (Simha). In the sign of Aries (Mesh), he is exalted (Uccha), while in the sign of Libra, he is in his decline (Neecha). The ATMAKARAKA is the name given to the Sun. This is derived from the Sanskrit words ATMA, which means soul, and KARAKA, which means indication. The Sun is the source of life as an "indicator of the soul." The parent, our ego, honors, prestige, renown, the heart, the eyes, general vigor, respect, and power are all represented by the Sun. The Sun is directly overhead in the 10th House, where he is at his most powerful. He's also adept at the other Kendras, or Angles.
