Buridan's Offering
I have a confession. I am a donkey. Today, I received an email. It was a newsletter from a creator providing motivation and instructional tips. I hesitated to read it but recalled my recent lifestyle update. No more backburners. I formally had the habit of setting things aside, resulting in unintentionally never seeing them again. Both Apple TV’s Watch Now and YouTube’s Watch Later were my greatest enemy.

BUILDING CHARACTER
“What if I am cursed?” I thought as life seemed to pummel me. I was leaving my apartment complex when I discovered someone had slashed one of my tires. This was after getting in an accident weeks prior. I would be calling into work again as I had just recovered from being sick. Rent was nearly due. I barely had anything to eat. Depression weighed me down.

The Orwell Experience
I honestly wish I had a better recollection of what caused me to pick up and read the novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four” by George Orwell. A cinematic opening to a story of me journeying from library to library seeking veracity and critical thinking.

Or So They Say: Chapter 1
The men got closer and closer as the panicky miller banged frantically on the door of the castle. His heartbeat pelted harshly in his ears, only interrupted by the impending racket of steel chains and curse words. The miller pounded harder. He had not bothered to pray before but found himself mumbling pleas for his life. His pursuers were unrelenting, seemingly charged by their vicious desire to reach him.

Out From UnderRunner-Up in The Runaway Train Challenge
“This ain’t the time for a bloody nap, mate!” Someone exclaimed, slapping me frantically in the face. I sat up from the cold floor. Dizzy and a bit nauseous. I felt a trickle through my hair and down the back of my neck. A quick swipe of my tremoring hand let me know it was blood. Everything around me was blurred and unsteady. Someone’s dark frame hovered closely in front of me. Too close. I hastily tried to back away from the unknown figure, but couldn’t get far.

Scourge
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Warm water trickled down Roselynn’s leg as the well bucket fell from her trembling hands. The still candle’s humble light pierced through the summer night, becoming all there was to see. Roselynn stumbled back. She sprinted back to the village as fast as she could.

Dear Mom, I'm Adopted.
Dear mom, I’m adopted. I was never yours. At least not truly. Although you were the one that bore me into this world we’re in, I departed from you long ago. Many days and many nights I gazed into the nothingness that has plagued every mirror I’ve encountered wondering why I was here. Forced to live out years I didn’t ask for. With you and without you all at the same time.

Of Water and Wine
The two hopeful men gazed at the bottle of Pinot noir wine like wind staring at a storm. The dust collected on its cork and around its neck gave the bottle more of a story. It made the desire for its contents even sweeter. Martin leaned over and put an arm on his father’s already drooping shoulder. “You know, father,” Martin started, almost whispering, “one day, we’ll finally be able to make mother proud. And when we do, we will be drinking the most glorious glass of wine in the world at that moment. Do you know why? Because we earned it. We deserve this.”

No Weapon
ACT I: THE CHILD “He never loved us! So, we’re not going to love him either!” The words my mother spat into my six-year-old face sank deep in my bones. Their weight anchored me in place. I could hear my father shout through the front door. Although I couldn’t hear what he was saying, I felt the bass in his voice in my frail chest. “Shut the hell up!” my mother screamed back at him in his direction. “You know you never gave a damn about us! I’m going to teach her to hate you!”
